I’m gonna say it again in here because I hope someone will go see it, but when evil lurks was a great movie. It wasn’t really scary, but it also doesn’t rely on jump scares. I’d heard how disturbing it was, but I mostly just found it bleak. I also didn’t find it as gory as I expected. It was just a good solid movie.

Going down my various streaming libraries...

Speak No Evil
The Wailing
The Sacrament
Hereditary
A Dark Song
Final Prayer
Savageland
Poughkeepsie Tapes
Kill List
The Conspiracy
The Invitation
Unsane

This is also leaving off movies that probably would qualify, to some, like Prince of Darkness, Green Room, The Thing, and In the Mouth of Madness.

Did you see From Black? It sort of reminds me of a dark song.

No I don't have Shudder rn and haven't been able to watch many movies lately.

I am probably going to do an AMC+ 7-day free trial at some point during October.

The Sacrament

I enjoyed that one a good bit.

Poughkeepsie Tapes

Not overly good, per se. But definitely creepy. But falls squarely into the “torture porn” genre, which may not be for everyone.

It’s really well done though.

The Invitation

I liked this one a lot. Definitely a weird, creepy vibe to it. It has a similar vibe as Coherence (except it’s more thriller/horror whereas Coherence is more thriller/sci fi). But both are good IMO.

Green Room

This one is excellent, and is a completely different take on thriller/horror and feels refreshing and new. I loved it and have seen it once or twice since my initial viewing.

The Wailing

As per the thread from a week or two ago, this one is great. Maybe even the best in the ones in my post (though I may edge Green Room in front of it).

It really doesn't have that much stuff on screen, though. There's like a picture of the couple. Not sure what other gore is in it.

That's why I put it in the psychological. Like the people TALK about terrible stuff but I don't think much, if any, of it is shown.

This is definitely a movie that had a cheap budget and could be a lot better without the community-theater level acting, 100%.

I mean, it’s got some pretty up close and intimate bondage/torture scenes. Just because it isn’t very gory doesn’t mean it’s not torture porn.

Finally was able to sit down and go through The Wailing. Fantastic. It was a long one, but it definitely paid off in the end. That was a marathon though lol

Go watch "Dog Soldiers". IMO, the best werewolf movie ever made.

I started that one a while back and it seemed boring. But it was late though. Maybe I should give it another try.

It's decent. It's much more of an action movie than a horror movie. It has some weird dialogue, though.

It’s an old favorite

More surrealist than horror but a good mix

I watched Willy's Wonderland last night. Its the movie where Nic Cage fights a bunch of animatronic robots. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would. Not as cheesy and silly as expected. Also Cage has a grand total of exactly 0 lines of dialogue. This was a fun watch.

I caught Willy’s Wonderland last year. It was decent. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I felt a little disappointed in the end. But it was entertaining enough.

Also finished up Dog Soldiers a little while ago. It’s not bad. The quality of the film (looks wise) feels too shitty, if that makes sense. It would be better if it was more clear. But I enjoyed it.

Watched Basket Case yesterday and From Beyond. Both are awesome 80s horror. Lots of gore and practical effects. Loved em both!

My digital version has all sorts of film errors and cigarette burns. The director is a low budget guy primarily and I'm guessing it was literally shitty film quality.

Initially it sort of helped with the ambiance and also with the SFX. But after a while it just got on my nerves with how terrible the film quality was.

It almost seems like it was intentional to be more “gritty.”
