I guess you don’t understand how a Origin film works then.

Actually, I understand how mental disorders work.

For a movie that is deeply grounded in reality with a realistic depiction of a person with incapacitating hallucinations & delusions that limit basic activities of daily living & functionality, in reality, those guys don't turn into mastermind criminals who outwit & defeat police forces and international mafias.

He started to have classic Joker traits near the end.

The more people he killed, the sharper his mind seemed to work. It seemed to have a settling effect on him.

Plus he dumped all of those meds.

If you think that Arthur imagined the entire movie then you have to accept that he imagined having realizations of imaginations, which is a bit much.

Derrick Todd Lee had an IQ under 70 and unfortunately managed to outwit police and the FBI for quite some time.

shite. If enough of these pussy voters decide to not see the film, Phoenix may not even get a nomination.

They keep saying “excessive violence”. They really must be avoiding all action and horror films.

Reading some of those comments. What a bunch of gutless hypocrites.

You’re right. They don’t. Not typically. Otherwise there would be thousands of Jokers. But one did. Hence this one instance. We have this special situation.

i almost wish this movie didn't happen. as critical as i was in my second watching, i'd still like to see this joker on scene with a batman. and i know i won't get that opportunity.

would we still view this movie as being as good as it is? Oscar worthy even?
Almost anytime Pheonix is in any movie, the Academy pays attention.

This is a massive hit for DC films. It's a good thing. I promise.

All I know so far is that The New York Times trashed it so its a must see.

Oh, it's not just the NYT, but I still want to see it. I think Phoenix is one of the best.

It's a decent interpretation of the ending.

He either has 1 kill or he has 7.

It's a good movie, it's a shame they sold it as Joker though because now it's gonna have some execs tempted to try to shoehorn in the expanded universe instead of letting it be another of the multiple choices.

I think they know that the character fills the seats. As long as they have a good actor and a good script, they can put a new Joker against the new Batman and people will come in droves.

That's pretty much the only reason that this sold so well.

Otherwise it would've just been me by myself watching The Machinist again.

Which I appreciate, again this was a good movie and a great performance.

He kills her right after making that statement so that was either the joke he was thinking about, or the actions that led up to him in front of her, or the long fantasy he had until making that kill with her.

Wow that’s a good movie. Need to see it again. The De Niro scene at the end is unreal. I could see it coming and it still blew me away. When he grabbed the camera and started talking into it, that was some of the purest Joker ever shown on the big screen.

The little details in that scene absolutely made it.

When he grabbed the Dr. Ruth knock-off and planted one on her lips for about 5 seconds, I knew I was about to watch something special.

Snuck away from work to go see joker this afternoon. I loved it.

I had no doubt that Joaquin’s performance would be incredible since he’s one of the absolute best, but I was less sure about Todd phillips & the story being able to match Joaquin’s talents. I think Phillips succeeded.

Oh, and the score was just as impressive as Joaquin’s performance. It was just massive. I just looked it up, and I’m sure it’s aready been mentioned in this thread, but the Icelandic woman behind it is the same one who scored hbo’s Chernobyl which was also an incredible score. Icelandic composers ftw.
