SPOILERS SPOILERS
Not IMO. None of this the top was about to fall down. It didn't, and the camera lingered on it for a good solid 10 seconds. That's the signal to the viewer that we have never left the dream world, that much like many of the characters thought they escaped the dream(saito in the opening) they were really still in it.

So the scene at the end, he's still not in reality?

That's how crazy this movie is. It's definitely inspired a lot more activity than usual for the M/TV Board at 5:00 in the morning.

I also think this thread needs a sticky. it's gonna get lit up the more people see it. so freakin much to discuss.

Well, it didn't fall, but tops can spin for minutes without falling. Nolan wanted to leave us wondering. The beauty of it is, neither of us are right or wrong. Both sides have good arguments to their point. But also, to help my point... a few times during the movie, the top fell, indicating it wasn't a dream.

Spoilers
yeah but thats a shitty ending. What was he going to do let the thing spin for 3-5 minutes before going to credits? There were other ways if he wanted to be ambigous, like Leo never spinning the top at all at the end so we never know if it will fall or not.
Plus Nolan likes to make mindfrick movies but they all have pretty satisfactory endings. Not like we are still wondering how Bale did his trick in Prestige. Guess your own endings not really his style

Yeah but then no one would have questioned it. Or at least the bulk of people wouldn't.

cause it was never really his totem, it was his wifes. So his own mind could mess with it. That was the whole point about never letting someone else touch your totem. If it wasn't unique to you then you could never trust it to tell you if you were in the dream or not.

An ending with him about to spin it, but his kids distract him so he never does it, no one would never have questioned it??? agree to disagree on that.

My point being though that the top is not ambiguous. It's pretty telling, and the fact there are other better ways to make that ending ambiguous tells me that it was meant to make a point not be ambiguous.
but hey you enjoyed the movie no matter what "really happened" and thats all that matters

SPOILERS ALERT THAT MOST OF YOU PEOPLE THAT WATCHED THE MOVIE PROBABLY NEVER BOTHERED TO WATCH
If you stayed through the entire credits like I did searching for answers, Nolan gives you the answer right their in the credits.
Towards the end of the credits Nolan plays the music that comes in the dreams that will signal you are about to be "kicked" then the big bmmmmm plays and the word Inception comes on the screen and the credits end.
I believe Nolan is telling the audience the whole movie was a dream and finally you were back to reality. Which in a way is what every director is trying to accomplish by submerging their audience in alternate reality. Which Nolan was AMAZING at
