Talking about past and current issues that affect people who have experienced things other than what you have experienced = woke?

Lol that’s all any thread on TD amounts to anymore these days. People bitching about wokeness

I am not sure woke is the right word

But there is an insinuation in the show that America is not ready for a black captain America.

I just roll my eyes and move on

I mean i assume Sam must take some super serum at some point if he is the new Cap America?

There was a certain ruthlessness he had when he was Winter Soldier. He’s more human now, has more of a human nature and not so animalistic. At least that’s the way I see it.

Yeah. Winter Soldier did a good job of making his appearances ruthless and having a sense of dread. There’s a bit more compassion in him that I’m sure would tone down his fighting prowess.

There's more than that when it comes to Sam not wanting to be Cap. He thought he wasn't half the man Steve was so he didn't feel like he was a good enough person to be Cap. That was the main reason for a majority of the first few episodes.

No Sam doesnt take any Serum..he doesnt want or need it.

And a part of America wouldnt want a non white Cap but Isaiahs viewpoint was that All.

That is Isaiahs viewpoint..he said frick a black representing America not Sam..Sam knows some dont want him being Cap cause of race, or cause of no Serum, or etc.. he is reluctant but now he Still wants to be CAP.

His sister, who sees racism even said Isaiah was bitter..as he should be.

A show can have several viewpoints on race and dealing with racism etc without promoting one viewpoint as the only right one.

I think they’ve set it up as a race issue for others, not Sam himself. Steve never treated him any different so his view of the shield is Steve. His sister’s is a view of white America.

Idk, it didn’t come off as woke. Seemed more realistic to me. There are ways to balance these issues and I think this show is doing it well. Walkers struggle with Battlestar dying is a great example of this showing how we can all learn to appreciate others regardless of race or religion, it’s shared experiences that we grow with others through, not what we’re born with.

IMO this show is not close to how fun/good Wandavision was.

I agree with this. I could see myself going back and watching WandaVision. Once this show is over, I doubt I'll ever get the urge to watch it again.

I mean...they had Bucky apologize to Sam for giving the shield to a black man. Not sure how much more on the nose it could be than that.

Not enough to be any more than a statistical anomaly.

The number of people who wouldn't want a white man to be Black Panther would be much, much higher and much more significant.

Doesn't have to be those two. Could be any combination of traditionally white and black heroes.

The overwhelming amount of racism around today isn't against black people, so it makes sense that people roll their eyes when people pretend otherwise and Hollywood pretends the white man is holding down the black man in the USA in 2021. That's a bigger fiction than flying superheroes and invading space aliens.

It's woke nonsense. No doubt about that. This show is handling it okay but that's definitely the reason that storyline is in the show.

Doesn't make me feel uncomfortable at all. I'm very comfortable talking about this.

The definition of "woke" is "alert to injustice in society, especially racism." If you don't feel like they're trying fit that description with that storyline, we'll just have to agree to disagree.

Meh

I’d argue the show is not that woke regarding race - old black man cap is bitter but I don’t blame him cause he lived in a different time period. Sam is a good character

It does seem to have a point to make regarding a world without borders

Is there gonna be a mackie led cap America movie?

The Black Panther movie wasn't very woke. The Luke Cage show wasn't very woke. Black Lightning is complete insanity with the wokeness.

This show is closer to Luke Cage and Black Panther than Black Lightning when it comes to the wokeness level, but they're definitely trying to check that box.

You don't get to decide that. Hundreds of videos in the last few years are still available for everyone to look at and see. They are all online-check it out sometime. Hell, if you can read this website and dismiss racism you're either willfully ignorant or participating yourself. It has nothing to do with you save for your gaslighting. There are extremes on the left which see racism in everything- a flawed view. You are their counterpart which sees it in nothing- also a flawed view.

I feel this way also, but I think they put that old man in there to check that box. It seems like Hollywood feels obligated to put some level of this in everything now. It makes stories less interesting and dilutes "marginalized" characters into one-dimensional beings defined by their level of grievance.

Yes I do.

You're going to have to be more specific. If you're talking about interactions with police, that isn't racism. Sorry.

Nope. There's lots of racism out there these days. Most of it is totally embraced by the left and celebrated. Critical race theory is totally accepted racism.
