First, disgusted Max is lounging around in bed fricking another woman with everything going on. As if I needed another reason to hate her. Berringer should have hung her arse then and there.

Silver & Israel what a great dynamic. Israel don't cop to no bullshite and for him to slowly realize Silver's value (love Silver figuring out who Israel is..guy is really clever as the Max story about Florida got his gears turning..) love Silver Israel is so much better the second time around. Love him slapping Silver around when he was moping "KINGS DON'T MOPE"

The little nod from Silver to Israel to give the go ahead to slit Berringer's throat shows Israel has become a loyal member of his crew.

Eleanor the snake somehow escapes her fate in Nassau and goes to hide in the fort like a little bitch. Boo hoo, Max is missing. who fricking cares.

Love the meeting with Flint where Silver says "billy has one hour to show his arse up." frick YOU BILLY. you ruined everything.

The brutality continues under Wood's lieutenant who is pissed he got 'prisoner drop-off duty' and what a fricking badass Bonnie is for thinking through a desperate plan with a small chance of success. While the pirates who could beat that giant were depleted, the giant was also getting tired and hubris made him less worried about a little girl. YOUR BAD. the key kick was fricking awesome. turning your hands into grotesque razors was sick and desperate and fricking amazing

MR DEGROOT ol' one ear still hanging on. i didn't think he'd make it past S1E1 and look who's still here. Yep, give Max up for 20 men..no brainer. frick YOU AGAIN BILLY. you've become what you hate..willing to sacrifice your men over being butt hurt about Max. Max is a fricking bitch so if she can be turned over for 20 men..do it.

BTW--frick Eleanor for holding out. When she decides to give up Nassau she tells Flint and Silver "you can have the rest of you men" SAY WHAT? frick YOU BITCH. holding out as usual til the bitter end.

Flint once again beguiled by that Guthrie bitch. Silver was right.

I knew the term and what it was but until that scene I had no way to put into words how brutal it was. Good God imagine being Jack and Bonnie watching that.

One of the best moments of the entire series was the way Teach's white milky unrelenting eye turned towards Woods. He fricking beat Woods even in death. That haunted me as much as the graphic skinning alive with the clouds of blood following the carcass under the ship.

I am trying to put myself into Jack's head the moment he realized Teach just saved him and Bonnie from that gruesome death.

That's what I meant about the acting in that scene. It was great all around. The looks on Jack's face were priceless. He was terrified. And Rogers was stone cold.

The power Silver has gained in a very short period of time is impressive.

fricking Billy, man. Now is not the time, dude. Chill the frick out and know your role. He is singlehandedly fricking up everything.

Billy Biceps.

quote:

fricking Max. It's hard not just outright purely hate her at this point. They really messed up with her character. Like it was said above, before in her role you looked at her experiences as making her wise. And now they just make her cocky and annoying. She was a bad replacement for Eleanor and can't play the same role well at all.

The thing that has become the most annoying for me now is that SHE WILL NOT TAKE THE BLAME FOR ANYTHING. I mean Eleanor comes to tell her she's gotten her out of the trouble again and she can't even say thank you. No, she blames it on Eleanor. "Why would I thank you, I tried to warn you for years that this was going to happen." O get over yourself. She will not take responsibility for anything. Wouldn't even admit that sending 6 guys to try and "capture" Silver was a dumb idea.

quote:

Woodes Rogers is such an awesome character. His story of killing the 73 men aboard that ship after his brother died was crazy. He is definitely capable of being a brutal psychopath. And of course Berringer is over there jerking off listening to that story since he is also a psycho.

Like I said earlier, he had that evil look in his eye the whole season leading up to this.

quote:

"Again."
"Again."

Rodgers acting especially was on point with this. Wonder how many takes that required. It was like "Ok shite heads how many times do I have to tell you, let's do this until he dies. No, I'm not stopping." So freaking good.

quote:

Only to have his badass moment completely stolen from him by a total badass himself,

Vane and Blackbeard went out like some champs. Blackbeards being an all time great exit. That mangled up face still being able to get up on his arms a bit and mug Rodgers down

quote:

So Max spills the secret of the plantation thing in Florida where rich people disappear to. Foreshadowing. I completely missed that the first time I watched the show.

Seems like this might have some importance moving forward...

quote:

When did Eleanor actually marry Rogers? I noticed an episode or two ago they started referring to her as his actual wife. Did that happen offscreen between S3 and S4?

Yea, off screen.

I didn't fast forward.

I just finished the series today but will comment on the eps in the current discussion.

The Blackbeard torture scene was fricking brutal. My god. That's what I was alluding to in my last post in this thread.

And I found myself as season 4 went on being more and more tired of Flint's shite

underrated duo. Israel will definitely keep your butt in check. He ain't scared to pimp slap you with a reality check.

Berringer for some reason reminded me of the villain from The Patriot, Col. Tavington. I mean you hate Tavington more and he's one of the best villains ever, but Berringer gave off a similiar vibe.

I went from liking Eleanor a lot in the beginning of the show, to disliking her, now I'm kind of back to liking her. She's trying to run things still too much but I think at this point it's just out of love for Rodgers, which I can't blame her all too much for that. The upcoming episodes with Eleanor are wild

Yea, it would have been nice for her to just stay missing. But at least they ain't covered up those big of titties, that's her one redeeming quality.

Billy's change in character is definitely disappointing. Easily a favorite character for most of the show but his character arc is just swinging in a different direction. Hard to blame him in a way of just being sick of Flint. Flint sells a lot of BS and Billy can see through a lot of it. Though he has definitely messed up lately.

Bonnie goes down as one of tGOAT pirates after that stunt. Epic fight scene and being willing to grab glass on the sharp end to fight is pretty awesome. Props to you Anne, you saved the day.

Yea S4 Flint is kind of just blinded by hate. I don't think you ever really see him as a good guy per se, but towards the end, for me, he's not necessarily the guy I'm rooting for.

He's become almost a secondary character in season 4.

I'm tired of Silver and his messiah complex. I'm going to preach to my pirate world and all will heed my wisdom. (which btw, Billy set up).

Season 4 has definitely lost some of the allure of earlier seasons. Searching for a way to wrap in up.

I hate Max even more with her bs rationalizations.

Everyone's outlook on all the different situations makes sense to them and they do put forth convincing arguments for their points of view. But can they all be right? And wrong?

Israel Hands for the win!

I can see that. Rodgers has easily become one of the best characters on the show. Not something you would have thought when he was first introduced. I'm ready to get back to more Jack and the Urca. The current watch, EP5-7 were all enjoyable to me.

That's a good point. I do see myself agree with pretty much all of them at some point The character arcs are just so dang good. Just look how different Flint, Silver, Jack, and Eleanor are since the beginning of the show. Rodgers to a degree as well he just hasn't been around as long.

Anyone who thinks S4 has lost any of it's luster can fight me. I couldn't help but finish because I'm like that kid at the table who has to eat all the donuts...but damn what an ending. Second half of S4 is fantastic.

Here's my ranking:
S2
S4
S3
S1

ETA can't what to talk about the next 3 eps.

Just want to point out that even though I low key hate Anne Bonny, she's a great example of how you can have a female character who you see as a pretty legit badass instead of just Mary Jane-ing chicks all over the place like shows and movies tend to do these days. You believed that fight was possible because not only did she legit get her arse kicked and almost died, but we've seen her handle men with blades before, so once she got ahold of those shards of glass it was completely believable that she could even the scales and actually win that fight against a man who was worn down by 10 or so other male pirates fighting him.

What makes you dislike her.

Also, my power was out last night and my when it came back on this morning it screwed my AC up. SO I'm dealing with that crap Will update the OP with the new watch and discussion schedule later.

Edit: Never mind, I thought today was Wednesday. Still have a day left to finish.

It’s just constant emo, silent-whiney bullshite with her. And she’s just not a super fleshed put character really. Her dialogue feels lazy most of the time and there doesn’t seem to be much depth outside of “she’s devoted to Jack because he saved her but she’s also sort of bi so women want her too.”

I don’t know, she’s just a pretty weak character IMO. Or maybe it’s just that in a show that is so chock full of awesome characters, she stands out as fairly bland.

These three episodes are symptomatic of S4 losing it's allure.

Silver dead, Madi sad.

Madi dead, Silver sad.

The Silver and Madi love story was a lazy plot device. I understand why it was done, but I find it trite. Madi could have just been a warrior princess who believes in the cause and the men's respect for her could have carried this plot along.

The hints and breadcrumb clues of future events are not as subtle as earlier seasons. More like, HEY I'm saying something here that is going to be important later so pay attention.

Billy badass, Billy traitor. Which is it? Both?

Eleanor, despite all of her faults went out like a champ. Now one less person to view having "meaningful" conversations with Max.

And the coup de grâce, Max and her assertion that only she knows how to take down Rogers. hmmmmm, this could have all been avoided if she had not fricked Flint with the knowledge of the sunken ships in the harbor. And then, despite all of the chaos that SHE has caused, Rackham goes along with her plan. Keelhauling would have been too good for Max. I despise her upon rewatch.

S4 has epic set pieces, S2 probably the best.

S4 has become too much of a soap opera.

Thank god for Israel Hands for stepping up and being a PIRATE! Love him slapping the shite out of emo Silver.

And Woodes Rogers, he will definitely do what he feels needs to be done. But alas, hubris.

Still love the show. Along with this rewatch, doing a parallel one with my son. One catches more and more with each viewing.

Well shite, I thought I had watched all three but apparently still have E7 to watch. So I will add my thoughts on the first two now and add E7 later. Look forward to discussing the whole show and wrapping up next week. This has been great.

S4E5

Eleanor firing at Rogers’s ship. Wow. I bet Rogers sat there on deck and tweeted this out right afterwards:

Israel Hands slapping the shite out of Silver was awesome. "Worry ain’t a good look for a king. Not in a kingdom like this... where loyalty is in short supply."

Rogers going to Cuba has to be treason, no? I get it’s one of his only moves, but like he said, their countries are literally at war with each other.

Silver delivering Billy to the Underhill plantation is smart, but not allowing them to kill him seems stupid. Those slaves had their family members beaten and killed because of Billy, so now they just get to rough him up a little as retribution? frick all that.

Of course Jack is the only person who knows what Rogers truly is and that he will never agree to simply hand over Nassau. I was surprised that Flint was shortsighted on that honestly. But I guess he’s trusting that Eleanor knows her husband, which obviously she doesn’t at all.

S4E6

Max is like a fricking cockroach. That bitch just won’t die. I have no idea why every single person in her life doesn’t shoot her or stab her or toss her overboard. God she sucks.

During the whole time with Flint and Eleanor at Mrs. Barlow’s house, I kept thinking about how hopeless that must feel. You know this is sort of your “last stand” sort of place, and you know that you basically have no shot whatsoever against what is coming. That must have sucked.

Featherstone is really a great character these days.

Man that fight at the Barlow house with that soldier and Eleanor/Madi was brutal. Really well done scene IMO and it felt pretty realistic too. Flint and company not ensuring that everyone was dead was a huge mistake. I get chasing after the few that ran off, but the ones left guarding the house should definitely gone and stuck swords into the Spanish soldiers lying around on the ground.

I do wish Flint would’ve told Eleanor that it was all Rogers’s fault though. Instead of lying to ease her before she died, he should’ve been like “YES, bitch! Of course it was your fricking husband, you dolt. I told you he was just like the rest of us, but you didn’t want to hear that shite and now here we are. Guess you won’t be shopping anymore at least. Idiot.” But I get why he showed compassion. I guess.

Jack agreeing (even listening) to Max’s plan about going to Philly to see Eleanor’s grandfather is egregiously stupid. Of all people to listen to that and say “Yeah, no. Shut the frick up, whore” Jack should’ve been first in line to do so.

upon rewatch, seeing her walk past that spanish soldier to fill up the water was CREEPY AF. he's just standing there in the back; watching...no mention made whatsoever until she looks out the window and sees the dead bodies.

love that scene.
