and Wolverine. Wolverine + Spiderman + Thor + Cap + Hulk + Iron Man on screen in the same movie + a guest appearance by Black Widow's arse in 3D = biggest movie of all-time ever in the history of anything.

Walt Disney reporting it has the 2nd biggest opening day box office behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part 2.

Avengers $80.5

HP $91

I love how that's stated like a quantifiable fact.

The Avengers is Kate Upton and The Dark Knight is Kate Winslet. Better?

I think this is one of those movies that you'll be able to watch over and over. I loved all the little stuff they added like Cap handing Nick Fury the $10 when he saw what the heli-carrier can do.

I don't get part of the Oscar, so why the frick should I care if a film wins it? The Academy is so out of touch with modern cinema it's a damn joke. I mean shite they gave a crappy black and white silent film the Oscar for Best Picture and gave the Best Actor award to a guy with 2 damn lines in the movie. frick them and their meaningless awards.

The Oscar isn't an award for the most entertaining movie. Many Oscar winners completely flopped at the box office.

Not they give it to the Best Picture because to them movie is an artform rather than a form of entertainment like it is to 99% of the American population.

I don't know why people are even comparing TDK and the Avengers. They're two COMPLETELY different movies.

Precisely. I thought "The Pianist" was a great movie, but I don't think it did well at the box office.

Couldn't agree more. But some people will only see that they are comic book hero movies and that must mean they are the same and should be compared to each other. Said it last night that you wouldn't compare Toy Story to Pulp Fiction, so why do it here?

Just got back from watching it. . .

fricking brilliance. Most fun I have ever had at a movie, ever.

And those bagging on Cap. Cap is the most natural leader out of the bunch. And he is obviously the best on-the-ground tactician and strategist.

His strategy capitalized on each member's strength, and exposed a weakness in the enemy.

It is obvious that each member defers to him when the shite hits the fan.

Joss Whedon, you exceeded all my expectations!

That's another thing I'm excited about after seeing Avengers and realizing how successful it's going to be.

Joss fricking Whedon will finally get the mainstream respect he deserves.

Let me say this too:

Why all the hate on Loki. He was a great villain to filter what Whedon wanted, the breakdown of the team. Hiddleston plays him wonderfully. And he brings magic into the fold. I hope we're not done with him.

How could you not get a chill when Cap goes into Stuttgart and saves that old man from Loki? Reminding him abou the last time he was in Germany.

that whole segment seemed corny and cheesey to me, especially his one-liner

i didn't dislike this movie at all. it was very fun. stuff like that made my skin crawl (for all the wrong reasons)

that isn't even a kiddie joke

but he didn't really develop into a leader. he kind of just jumped in with his "aw shucks" mentality and barked simplistic commands

this movie would have been a lot better without CA and with the banner/stark interplay with thor/hulk fricking shite up

and exposed a weakness in the enemy.

what weakness?

the main weakness was the Randy Quaid-like retronuke on the ship, which made all the bad guys stop, like in ID4

stark seemed to be this, imho

i saw this posted prior to seeing it and during the movie i couldn't understand wtf people were bitching about

i mean there was a major problem in not creating fear for our heroes (esp with the hulk), but that wasn't b/c loki was weak

i guess people wanted the main bad guy to be the main threat
