If you’ve read anything about it yet, early word is it’s unlike any other SW film...in a good way. I’m sure you’ll complain about that too though since you’re likely one that’s unable to be pleased by anything they do

Who are the "unnecessary characters" that have been shoved down anyone's throats? And how can we even deem them unnecessary when the current trilogy has only been a third of the way played out? And why wouldn't a movie series that has been sustained through multiple generations in part due to nostalgia touch upon that?

Do people just not watch movies just to be entertained for 2 hours any more? I have been a Star Wars fan since I was 5, yet the only criterion that I use to judge a movie is if I will watch it again.

I'm curious as to what you're considering "play it safe" as well, given they wiped everyone out in Rogue One. Playing it safe there would've allowed at least one of the main characters to live.
I think there's this hope that Rey turns to the Dark Side for a certain subset of folks so they can see a leading female character not be "OMG GIRL POWER" but not necessarily for the sake of the story. I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see here dabble in both but I'd also feel like it'd be a twist for the sake of a twist if she did completely go to the Dark Side.
