i guess i get it. im pretty much over it. im just not going to get excited for any other movies not named Suicide Squad (which could still be great due to the cast and Ayer).

But something is seriously wrong with WB/DC. they have lost control of Arrow, their movies, and their comic line is about to drastically change again after rebooting 3 years ago.

its just very disheartening. growing up in the late 90s and the 2000s their comics were on point. Geoff Johns had some of his best works starting. then the nolan trilogy started and everything was great again. now its like it all never existed. bah humbug. oh well.

I liked the movie, and I recognized it is full of big, dumb moments/dialogue.

I don't even like superman as a character and went into the movie with a great deal of pessimism.

This was the first movie I saw in Imax 3d since inside out, and before that, avatar, and I thought it was worth the price of admission for the visuals alone.

eta: listen, i get the visuals argument. but i wanted more for this franchise than a michael bay transformers series. thats why those movies exist.

I still plan to see all three of their upcoming movies. This movie was bad, but I still enjoyed it enough that I plan to see the others. I will buy the extended cut of this movie to see if it makes the movie better. But I thought Green Lantern was terrible and still bought it on DVD.

But at the same time I want to see another take on Green Lantern. I want a great Cyborg/Flash/Aquaman movie. If Justice League does like this one, do those movies get made? (I can't remember if those three come out before JL or after).

I've heard some rumblings that Snyder wants to release the extended cut in theaters and has made a DCP of it. It will depend on what WB wants to do. Personally, I think it's a good move. It will bring in more money and we will get to see if it actually does make the movie better sooner rather than later. It's just talk at this point, though.

So far we've only seen the Snyder movies. If Suicide Squad and Wonder Woman are a mess, then I'd go into full panic. But if they really do have their own feel to them, then I'm good to go.

The only DC movies that I haven't seen are Catwoman and Jonah Hex. I could never get through Catwoman and Hex just seems too far from the character for me to make the attempt.

BOX OFFICE: It's officially passed $700 Million Worldwide

quote:

Even though it suffered a record breaking drop in box office takings on its second weekend of release, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has still managed to rake in $700 million globally.

Of course a big chunk of that is thanks to the Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel follow-up's massive opening weekend, but now that the film seems to have run out of steam, there are serious doubts that it'll manage to make a billion before the end of its theatrical run.

Still, with a reported budget of $250 million, Batman V Superman has performed pretty well - but will Warner Bros. be satisfied?

If they release that cut in theaters, admittedly I'd be first in line to see it. They could make up for some lost box office.

They'll need to do something b/c it's continuing to show sluggish legs.

Monday and Tuesday were both sub $1,000 per screen making just $3.19 million and $4 million.

If typical patterns hold It's looks like this weekend should be closer to $25 million than $28 million.

2nd watch report (bullet points)-

Felt it flowed better.

There is humor in this movie, but it is nothing close to a Marvel movie. It intends to be more serious and "darker;" however, the indictment that it is joyless is bullshite.

The "Martha" moment made so much more sense (while I thought Affleck did great, his handling of this scene made it much more of a WTF moment than it should have been).

Irons as Alfred was great, again.

Cavill's performance as Superman was much more sympathetic and "human" than people are giving him credit. I think I was inclined to not fixate on him so much because Affleck was an awesome Batman. I knew what was coming (since I had seen it already), but his sacrifice seemed genuine.

Luther's motivations were clearer, but still don't explain everything. I think the theory that his unhingedness was the result of outside influences makes the most sense. Still not sold on Joker/Lex and would have preferred one along the lines as from the Animated Series.

Gadot/WW was still great.

I liked Lois less on second viewing.

The Doomsday story was still out of place. It really makes no sense. This is Luther's "back up" if Batman fails...to unleash a mindless, amoral version of the person you are trying to destroy? As Tony told Loki in The Avengers, "Not a great plan."

++++++++++++++++++++

In sum, I enjoyed it again and I like it more than I after the first viewing. I am now VERY interested in the Ultimate Cut and I am hoping it is not just 30 minutes more, but is actually a different cut of the movie to "fix" some of the problems. WB should give SERIOUS consideration to releasing UC in the theaters.

Evidently BvS made less than Melissa McCarthy's 'The Boss' ($8M) yesterday.

It's fading fast internationally as well. Rumor has it that they will release the 3 hour directors cut before it finishes it's run.

After last weeks numbers were tallied it's now possible that it won't even hit $100 million in China...

quote:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice remained in first place on the international chart, but it did so with just $85.1 million in 67 markets for totals of $421.4 million internationally and $681.8 million worldwide. The film fell 77% in China to just $12.86 million for a total of $85.68 million after two weeks of release. It might fizzle out before it gets to $100 million in that market. You have to assume the studio was looking forward to twice that figure there. It fell 68% in the U.K. to $6.97 million in 612 theaters over the weekend for a ten-day total of $41.59 million. On the other hand, it held on very well in Brazil down just 39% to $6.44 million on 893 screens over the weekend for a two-week total of $20.88 million.

LINK

Ant-Man made $105 million and Age of Ultron made $240 million in China just to give some perspective on how disappointing that would be for WB/DC if it holds true.

more bad news for WB/DC

quote:

'Batman V Superman' Drops 60% For Smaller Third Friday Than Tim Burton's 'Batman'

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice may or may not be the top film of the weekend, but it fell to second place on Friday night. The superhero sequel earned $6.045 million last night, down a whopping 60% from last Friday’s colossal 81% plunge. For comparison, Deadpool made $8.8m on Friday #3 (-45%), Iron Man 3 made $9.5m on its third Friday (-51%) and both The Dark Knight Rises and Avengers: Age of Ultron made $10m on their respective third Fridays. Man of Steel, 300, and Batman (yes, Tim Burton’s Batman) had $6m third Fridays off much smaller opening weekends.

Yes, Batman had a bigger third Friday ($6.065 million vs. $6.045 million) than Batman v Superman off a $42m opening weekend back in 1989.

Regarding third Friday drops, Fantastic Four dropped 55% on its third Friday, X-Men Origins: Wolverine dropped 49%, Incredible Hulk dropped 56%, Hulk dropped 62%, Watchmen dropped 62%, and Green Lantern dropped 67%. As of today, Zack Snyder’s DC Comics entry has earned $279.2 million domestic in fifteen days, past the likes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and The Amazing Spider-Man here and worldwide.

The film has already topped $739 million worldwide and has earned $463.5m overseas, including $91m from China. So it’ll soon pass the various X-Men: Days of Future Past and Deadpool, for what that’s worth. It should snag $21.5 million for the weekend (-58%) to bring its cume up to $295m in 17-days, or just past the $291m cume of Man of Steel. It’s dropping fast, and $350m domestic and $900m worldwide seem like best-case-scenarios. So the fire is not rising, although it’s unquestionably made quite a bit of money.
