Probably the best mystery/thriller of the 1990s and, for my money, Oliver Stone's most entertaining movie. It was page-turning novel on the big screen.

The cast was also unreal.

Costner
John Candy
Jack Lemmon
Kevin Bacon
Joe Pesci
Ed Asner
Gary Oldman
Donald Sutherland
Tommy Lee Jones
Martin Sheen (narration)
Etc, etc, etc.

Entertaining fiction, but I can't watch the whole thing anymore after reading about how far-flung and misleading Garrison's investigation was. He found some eccentric French Quarter queer and thought it'd be funny to put him at the center of a presidential assassination conspiracy.

I do remember walking around the Quarter one time as a kid during the filming of the N.O. scenes and seeing some props (1960's advertising) and blocked off streets, so there was my one brush with Hollywood.

John Williams ripped off his JFK score for his Jurassic Park score.

Most of the JFK conspiracy theory components rest on incorrect factual elements (e.g. the “magic bullet” flies on a straight trajectory if you correctly align Kennedy’s and Connelly’s seats as they were seated in the car that day, the oak tree poses no impediment to a sharpshooter from the window Oswald is alleged to have used, etc.)

The only thing that doesn’t make sense is Jack Ruby killing Oswald.

I was referring to Clay Shaw, or Clay "Bertrand," or whoever Bannister and Garrison were talking about in their evolving stories.

ETA: I went down the rabbit hole after reading Kafka's annual OT thread; I didn't mean to bring that whole thread over here. Was simply saying that I don't think as much of the movie after finding out how much it was based on Garrison's goose chase, and made with Garrison's apparent approval.

Speaking of JFK, I just watched "13 Days" for free on You Tube.

Which stars...wait for it...Kevin Costner.

It's all about what went on in the White House during the 13 Days of the Cuban Missle Crisis. Fascinating behind-the-scenes brink-of-war drama. The cast for JFK, Bobby, McNamara, Adlai Stevenson all look like the real people, too.

No hard evidence that he was involved in JFK assassination but CIA confirmed Shaw was an asset over 20 years ago.

I mean the fairy named Ferrie was documented as a pilot for high ranking mafioso, in the weapons exchanges for the bay of pigs and for men who HATED JFK, so it's not that crazy that his name gets brought up.

It’s as factual as the Wizard of Oz but I do love Costner’s Foghorn Leghorn accent.

I like JFK a lot from an entertainment standpoint, like alternative history. There wasn’t a second gunman and I would be shocked if anyone of significance had any knowledge of what LHO was up to, much less put him up to it.

But it’s a good movie.
