Can you imagine Kaiju’s melt on a street corner when Orson Welles cast Eartha Kitt as Helen

Perhaps you’re too young to remember the complete outrage when he cast Heath Ledger as the Joker. It was volcanic. Then people saw the movie……

Are you retarded? Heath Ledger as Joker and this black woman as Helen of Troy are not on the same plane of existence as a comparison

Even if you didn’t like Heath, he could be made to resemble the character. This actress destroys any verisimilitude this movie had going for it

Not one actor or actress in the movie is ethnically Greek. Why is it that the black actress is specifically triggering?

You all get way too worked up over movies.

This isn’t anywhere near that. Lupita cannot act her way out of being a mid black girl who supposedly is the face that launched 1000 ships

You clearly didn't read anything I said, and instead wanted to push this hilarious idea that I'm not old enough to remember, a complete non sequitur, as having anything to do with the conversation.

It's clear that Heath Ledger in fact COULD act his way out of his rom-com, Brokeback on screen resume'. And then he died.

I'm Gen X, how about you?

Matt Damon in normal times would get hell for being cast as Odysseus. But turns out, he's the least of this cast's problems.

Mid Zendaya as Athena?
Ellen Page as Sinon, a Greek warrior (5'2") who isn't even IN the Odyssey.
Lupita Nyong'o as Helen?
Travis Scott ...

Not to mention the absurd inauthentic armor, the drab color, There's a LIST of problems here. Not just Lupita.

The ledger situation was totally different and I’d like to see all this outrage being claimed now and who was outraged specifically. I’m sure there were threads and posts that could be referenced but we don’t see them for some reason. Thats more comparable to Keaton being cast as Batman than it is to race swapping, especially in this story, but these people know that, they’re just being dishonest like always.

What are you even going on about? *When did that ever happen?

I see she was in Erik the Viking, as Freya, which was a comedy movie. But yeah, was a fine Cat Woman. So was Halle Berry.

* a Paris stage production

Oh, got it. Not a major int'l film. A light skinned black woman who has actual sex appeal and is far closer to anything you'll see in the Greek isles than Lupita.

Man, what a stretch you go to just to 'own' me.

You can have them - although Saldana is really good looking.

Good grief you are eaten up with it. My point was mentioning a time before people knew Heath would crush it. Your tunnel vision on how the “culture war” has impacted movies is unhealthy. I wish you the best.

MY tunnel vision? Why is this so important for the industry to keep doing this?

What is so god damn important that Lupita NEEDS to be Helen of Troy? Or little Ellen Page a Greek warrior, who's not even in The Odyssey? Please, can anyone explain WHY they are pivotal to the movie?

Sorry, Zendaya is "ok", but tell me she's cast as Athena for her amazing, goddess like beauty or her acting range. And Matt Damon? Please.

The claim of 'artistic expression' goes out the window when we just look at the race and gender swaps (or ginger swaps) we've gotten over the years. It's not mere coincidence. Not even close.

This is being done on purpose and people will NOT simply shut up because some others are tired of us pointing out the obvious and not buying it.

I can’t wait for that MLK biopic with Adrian Brody in the lead.

That will never happen but the Tom Brady biopic, starring Micheal B. Jordan will.

This is still awesome

Eartha Kitt looked better in her prime than Lupita Nyong'o does in the present day. For me, skin color is not the issue here. It's the idea that the filmmakers want us to believe that she was the face that launched a thousand ships. Helen of Troy should be drop dead gorgeous.

Had they cast Halle Berry for this role when she was in her prime, I wouldn't have an issue with it at all. I could actually believe that someone would be pissed off enough to launch an invasion to get her back.

Not Lupita, however.
