Looks like it has to do with race swapping
Kinda secondary to gender swapping, but I get your point.
This one will likely be a ~ 2 hr special. I'm excited.

Perfect episode for Randy

So another special?
I enjoy the specials, but I'd really love for actual seasons to come back.

Another Paramount+ special? Let me know how it is.

Race AND gender swapping.
Making fun of the very thing so many here say isn't happening, or that if it is, it's no big deal.

How were you able to enjoy Foundation? It was among the worst offenders of race and gender swapping.

They’ll probably have another 6 episode season in March and April like last year.

1. I didn't read the source material (yet), so I've no idea what I'm missing.
2. There are, as I said, good actors, writers and FX. So there's that.
I know you really don't want to open up that can of worms (again) in this thread, so I'll just say this - when EVERYONE in Hollywood starts doing something because they think it's unique and edgy, it quickly becomes neither.

I fully agree that it’s all diversity checkboxes behind it and expect SP to have a field day with it. What I’m saying is it’s not a big deal because of the same reasons you gave for liking Foundation. It’s a symptom of bad shows, but it’s not the cause. I can’t think of any bad show that would suddenly become good by restoring a character to their original race or gender. But the recent successes of shows/movies like Foundation, House of the Dragon, Dune, MCU with Nick Fury and MJ, are just going to encourage more to attempt it.

It's a case by case issue, imo. If George R.R. Martin, for example, is fine with it, so be it. It's his creation, and in the instance of House of the Dragon, there's given a plausible explanation. (I'm told. Haven't seen it, doesn't seem to have caused a big fuss that I'm aware of)
Dune - can't really say again, having only seen on screen versions of the story.
Nick Fury - it's Samuel L. Jackson, so that's sort of like Idris Elba as Heimdal. Yeah, they swapped a character, but the audience got really good actors with presence in the tradeoff.
MJ - Didn't they explicitly NOT call her Mary Jane Watson, and sort of leave it ambiguous? And since they've established a 'spider-verse' where OTHER Mary Jane's existed with their Peter Parker counterparts, it's no real issue.
But mess with the works of Tolkien, for example... that's a bridge way too far.

Have the underpants gnomes swapped out for the new Snow White baristas and it's perfect

Can you give me examples where it’s actually been a real issue? I’m not saying there isn’t any. Denzel in Apple’s Macbeth was great, but it’s Denzel.
As for Rings of Power, you’ll just have to take my word that you would hate it just as much if the dwarf and elf were white.
Just going by looks and not behavior, you probably hate the most accurate character the most. And a lot of people won’t hate it because they haven’t read the Silmarillion, or could even pronounce it.
ETA: you can probably blame little mermaid, but I also think it would have done poorly with a white Ariel. People are tired of the scene by scene remakes

The destruction of Tolkien's work by Amazon's garbage show goes well beyond random and irrational race swapped Elves, Hobbits and Dwarves.
I've broken it down, from the absurd abandonment of established canon and lore to the cheap Party City costume designs, which show up in Amazon's own ads, for anyone to see.
What makes it so egregious in this particular case is that Amazon and the showrunners when out of their way specifically to insert these characters of color to piss off the age-old fan base. They WANTED the reaction of fans speaking out so they could then claim 'muh racism' and call people nazis. It's called fan-baiting, and they did it to generate hype from a manufactured controversy of their own doing.
Just like happened with She-Hulk. The writers jokingly said they mocked the source material just to get fans angry. I'm not a fan of She-Hulk, but hearing them say this (and yes, they did exactly that) really pissed me off as well. To have so little concern or regard for an IP while you're trying to make money off of it... it's why so many have abandoned current day Hollywood.
*And back to Rings of Power, they set themselves up extremely poorly by establishing only BLACK dwarves, hobbits & elves, but no Asian, Hispanic, Innuit, S. Pacific, etc... representation. Also, what happened to them in the 3rd age? Was there a purge of these Black variants? They never existed in Tolkien's work before and weren't in any later versions of the stories.

The writers
This is the actual big deal. If these writers focused less on race/gender and more on the story, they would just produce more bad story. They aren’t going to become better writers with fewer distractions.

I think the elf is a Latino. But my point was you could make these characters white or completely take them out of the show and it would not make it any better and you would still hate it.

As I said…
That being said, I happened to stumble across an article about Netflix being sued by the government of Egypt. Why? Because of the “documentary“ about Cleopatra.
Stuff like this matters in the real world. Once you start messing with people’s history and heritage, there is going to be some justified pushback. Even the idiot actress who played the black Cleopatra pretends she doesn’t understand. She makes the weak argument that if anyone is “threatened“ just because of her skin tone, then that makes them a racist. She knows damn well that if anyone but a black man played the part of Martin Luther King Jr. , for example, there would be riots.
The people of Egypt, as well as everywhere else, have the right to preserve their own history and heritage.
And this brings us back to the South Park special on the absurdity of Hollywood doing these race and gender swaps. Everyone knows that it’s being done for purely political reasons, with almost no thought to what they are doing or the impact it could have.
