On the board where every other thread is about a comic book movie?

Yes, dumbass, I do know how to read. I use that skill to actually read the article posted in the op.

Also, whatever topic you can think of off the top of your head, just assume, correctly, that I know more about it than you. It will give you, an idiot, a sense of idiotic peace.

Is Duke already forgotten? Least Fox makes sense for a legacy push if Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian are dead.

Blue Beetle's second legacy Jamie Reyes and his books were pretty good.

Jessica Cruz decorrupted the crime syndicate power ring and is now another Green Lantern for Earth.

Good and fun legacies and reimaginings are out there. The difference is they let it be organic instead of an ad campaign.

Sensitive little fellow, aren’t you?

Grab a pint of Ben and Jerry’s and salve your fragile ego with a superhero movie.

But that's not what's happening with this comic. DC isn't killing or retiring Bruce Wayne. This is an alternate universe future imagining of Batman, which is part of a series of DC future imaginings happening as an "event" next year.

So, pandering

This won't be the prime batman. This is an alternate in a world where the real batman is dead.
The character is a known character in the universe.
This isn't replacing Bruce Wayne.

Don't even try. People want to be offended and make snide comments. Let them get it out of their systems.

Make it a continuation of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air timeline. Judge Phil becomes silly rich timing the stock market right (going from millionaire to billionaire), but someone he threw in jail eventually kills Phil and the rest of the family when he makes parole. Will witnesses this while hiding in the attic and Jeffrey was visiting his family in England at the time.

A distraught Will changes his name and moves to Gotham city, taking Jeffrey (in the Alfred role) with him.

1973: Frank Robbins and Dick Giordano create the black Batman that is the springboard for today's Batwing. The response is, "Cool story, lots of fun, good work."

1979: Joey Cavalieri and Joe Staton create Blackwing. Goes mostly unnoticed.

2001: Stan Lee and Joe Kubert create their black Batman. Readers know Stan didn't really write it. Great art but the story is a letdown.

2011: Grant Morrison and Yanick Paquette create the Batman of Africa, Batwing. Gets a positive response from fans.

2020: DC announces another black Batman. People lose their minds.

Marvel did that back in the 2000s.

Characters that should take the mantle before Luke Fox ever gets a chance to:

Dick Grayson
Jason Todd
Barbara Gordon
Tim Drake
Damian Wayne
Jim Gordon

Even Selina Kyle should be Batman before Luke Fox is ever considered.

I guess, in an alternate world where literally all of those people died, it could make sense. Having them simply never exist would work I guess, but that would be so lazy. Would at least make more sense than Bruce dying and Luke Fox becoming Batman, assuming any of those characters exist.

It would make more sense for Bruce Wayne to have never been Batman at all on this alternate world, and for none of the history of Bruce's Robins to have happened at all, if we're going to have Luke Fox take the mantel. Would be odd for him to have become a "bat-man" in that scenario.

If any of those other characters are alive and Bruce had been Batman on that world, then it simply doesn't work. There's too much history there for me to believe Bruce would leave the cowl to anyone other than the others I mentioned.

It's the same reason Azrael being made Batman didn't make any sense. It's worse when it is clearly just an excuse to have a black Batman.

ETA: I forgot Jim Gordon. Added.

AzBats was supposedly done as a “take that” at people who wanted Batman to change and become more 90s anti-hero like The Punisher.

They had him take over and wig out so that Bruce would fix himself, come back, and be lauded when he took out AzBats.

Batwing, in particular, was conceived by Batman as his crime-fighting counterpart overseas, 'the Batman of Africa'.

The 11%'ers getting spread thin.

Are the comic villain's going dark too or is there no room for the 11%'ers to play bad guys?

Yes. Changing a character for people who don't actually like that character never works.

Kind of like what we're discussing here.

I even liked Azrael as a character. I like Batwing as a character. Neither of those characters would ever be believable as Batman.
