Is there a scenario where these streaming sites could begin merging?

Would the government stop the mergers? Could we get to a point to where the only streaming services left are Amazon and Disney?

PS- I’m teaching about the Gilded Age in my class, and besides tech giants (Meta, YouTube, Google) as examples, this is something I could foresee happening over the next decade or so, without govt. intervention.

What say the M/TV board?

I looked at their top 10 trending the other day and probably half of them were woke and gay/ lesbian shows

netflix original content is awful for the most part and their library lost most of its biggest shows

Maybe they’ll merge and you can pay one price for all of their combined content.

Maybe they’ll call it “cable”.

I actually was thinking this the other day that we could end up full circle with the streaming sites somehow being bundled.

This is exactly where I was going.

Could it be “cable” all over again?

I could see it happening. As more and more end up with their own streaming services. At some point they will end up with a diminishing return and band together in a new cable company lol.

If you had all the streaming services at the premium level i would guess you are basically right back at cable price especially factoring in internet price along with them. Netflix is 20, Hulu is like what 12 or 13? Peacock is 10, disney 6 and so on.

Why would the government stop it? They haven't done shite to curb Big Tech companies acquiring everything. Unless we see a big bi partisan shift for stricter antitrust legislation in the tech industry, I don't see a scenario where Netflix can't get acquired.

Would be kind of funny. They took out blockbuster, then something else takes them out.

Corporate sponsored politicians have gerrymandered so much of the House post Citizens United that I don't think it's possible to break up monopolistic companies anymore. Thanks much Kennedy, Roberts, Alito, Thomas, and Scalia!

Maybe they'll all merge together and we can watch everything for $200 a month?!

AWESOME.

Netflix has made us pay more in the US while they give it away for free in other countries

Of all the steaming services I have Netflix would be the easiest to part ways with. They’re quantity over quality strategy just hasn’t appealed to me

This is what gets me. I know Netflix is going to shoehorn woke garbage, so even if the show looks like it had an interesting premise the bullshite butts its head in and ruins the whole thing.

This wouldn’t necessarily make me mad if they did something like Peacock where you have to watch ads in order to get it for free, but they don’t so they can eat a fart.

If so, please let whichever one ends up with Netflix start using the Netflix platform. It is the only one that never, ever buffers on me, hardly ever crashes, and is the most user friendly.

The only decent original content on Netflix right now is their animation department.

Castlevania
Witcher

Anybody who didn't see the writing on the wall for Netflix when Disney + premiered was blind.

I canceled Netflix 2 years ago and haven't missed it for a second. Most every streaming platform puts out nothing but vast amounts of garbage.

Honestly, Paramount+ is a far superior service to Netflix now and I thought that would be impossible a year ago.

Yeah, I have noticed recently that the foreign Netflix shows are often better than US shows. But I agree, they are progressively getting worse and worse about their content.
