this may be incredibly stupid, but when they add movies do they also remove some?

Contract is all I know.... Some of these movies on the list have been instant since I started the list.
I do periodic checks to see if movies/tv shows have been removed from instant and it is usually 1 or 2 from each section.

gotcha, what concerns me is that if I use Netflix as a viable entertainment option to having cable, I dont want good movies/tv shows taken off.

I have it on my 360 along with ESPN3 and it seems like it could keep me quite happy

I use a combination of Netflix + Hula and it meets all my needs outside of sports

They remove movies as often as they add them.

only reason I can see is to make more room on the servers.

expand the servers/bandwidth

I would pay more monthly if the selection just continued to grow

I wonder if they keep track of how often a movie is viewed and if that plays a part in the removal process.

Broadcast rights. It's different than with DVDs and first sale doctrine. With streaming they have to buy the rights to the movie which is very costly so I they only buy the broadcast rights for a limited time.

they have to have a counter like youtube has that logs how many times it's been viewed.
