Home Alone 2 is unequivocally better than 1. Even Rob Schneider thinks so, as do the TV networks because they run it a good bit more than the first one.

Also Bladerunner 2049 should be mentioned more. Maybe sparing K and Deckard’s fight being shorter, it’s also a masterpiece and better than the original.

You frickers have lost your mind.

Bladerunner 2049 was just a bunch of modern CG window dressing on what the original did in groundbreaking fashion.

Empire Strikes back and Bad Boys 2 are the 2 that immediately come to mind.

Sorry, but K has a better arc than Deckard does and is a better character overall. The original is boring at times while this one is an exciting slow boil throughout.

It took everything that works in the original and expands and deepens it. Yes, Blade Runner is one of the greatest films ever made, but 2049 is to it as the Godfather Part II is to the Godfather. It should have won Best Picture in 2018.

You are aware he made Pan’s Labyrinth, right? It’s probably the single best fantasy movie of all time, and yes even over Lord of the Rings.

Empire Strikes Back and Wrath of Khan are the two obvious ones. Does From Russia With Love count? It is more of a series than sequel, but it was better than Dr. No. Goldfinger would eclipse them both. The Two Towers is my favorite of the trilogy, but the first was great too so not sure.

Possible bad opinion here, but mostly due to the flashbacks, I enjoyed the Godfather 2 more than the Godfather.

Empire Strikes Back over A New Hope
Dark Knight over Batman Begins
I personally liked the Last Crusade over Raiders

Welcome to my world. And I liked 2049 well enough. I gave DV an "A" for effort. I admitted that if Ridley wasn't going to direct it, DV would be my choice, Deakins shot it, obviously Vangelis wasn't going to be able to do the score, but Zimmer is S-tier. Hampton Fancher and Michael Green with the script.

That team should have made a better film and one that could have elevated the franchise. It ended up being a muddled mess, probably more because of outside interference than the creative team's efforts (Jared Leto was laughably bad - not sure how much of that was him versus DV - the Deckard memberberries were also not executed well). I gave as many kudos as I could and sort of conceded that it was likely Quixotic for anyone. All in all, it was "okay". Still they argued it was "better than the original". Imagine being that dumb?

Jared Leto was in the movie for five fricking minutes and two scenes. I just think people that hate Jared Leto really exaggerate how much of a factor he is in the movie. I’m not a huge Jared Leto fan either, but he does well enough in the film. Luv is more the main antagonist than Wallace anyway.

Caddyshack 2 is great. It's better than the first, which isn't really a good movie. I'll rochambeaux with anyone on this topic.

Fair enough that many people have this subjective take. I would not say that you're wrong for your opinion.

However, it is, to my mind, impossible to put G2 over G1 - like I said, I think that is a great example of an S-tier film getting an S-tier sequel. It sometimes happens. G1 has Brando. Ain't NO Godfather movie without Brando going to beat that. Equaling it is the highest compliment I can pay to G2.

I have a similiar analysis for Star Wars and Empire - Star Wars (with Jaws on the assist) altered the entire film industry forever. There is a reason for that. I doubt any sequel could beat it. However, in a similar vein, Empire is so very good that it deserves that, "Well, we're not sure any film in this universe could top Star Wars, but Empire comes awfully close..." That's extraordinarily high praise in the grand scheme of things.

Fair enough - yet another example I would say of "as good as".

Rutger didn't like 2049 for the same reason I didn't like it. No soul, no love, no movement. It was all homage. I liked what DV and Roger did visually. The story itself being dogshit (again, it wasn't hacks it was Fancher and Green - certainly I would have picked Fancher and wouldn't have objected to Green) probably doomed it.

Nobody is a bigger fan of Blade Runner (1982) than I am. Nobody wanted the sequel to be great more than I did.

I remember you specifically being this and I don’t think that any sequel no matter what it was could live up to your standards.

And y'all are free to like it. Watch it over and over if you like. Start arguing that it is "better" than the original? That's going to get some pushback from me.
