The Newsroom is heavy handed about it, but it's his show.
It's not just that it is heavy handed. As I said, The West Wing is one of my all time favorite shows.

This show is flawed because they have an alleged conservative news commentator who does nothing but attack fringe conservative issues. It would be another thing if they occasionally showed him going after the OTHER side but they don't. So the show is flawed.

I do think the relationshippy stuff is a bit weak and sophomoric too.

I don't really like the show, but when they breakdown the business of media, I think it's so fricking cool. Loved them breaking down the direction of the Nancy Grace episode in the meeting, and when they start talking the statistics of viewers, how they draw them in, how it propels the marketing. Dig that shite. Don't really like most of the inter personal stories of the characters, just the behind the scenes media shite.

I was hoping this is what the show would be, I don't mind political agendas if the show is entertaining, it's falling flat in that department.

I don't get why they need to cover the "other" side.

I'm on the record as saying the West Wing is probably the best drama ever.

Because the first few episodes were all about "fairness" and "covering all angles," which hasn't been done yet. It would also make sense that if they keep claiming that Will is conservative, they'd at least show it instead of telling us about it.

It's a show. A SHOW. I'm a conservative and I enjoy it, because I'm intelligent enough to realize that IT'S A SHOW.

I don't need them to cover both sides, I'm not going to get angry if they have different views than me, and I'm not going to quit watching a show I enjoy because it has a liberal slant. Why? Because it's not real and I can get over it.

It's amazing how some people get their panties in a wad over television.

I think what you are saying is the major character, who is noted for a specific trait. . .lacks credibility in that trait.

That can really hurt a show contingent on that character.

Like if the Evans family lived in a mansion, instead of a project apartment. The entire premise would fall flat, because the key trait would lack credibility.

Before you Google, I'm talking about Good Times

Why do people care if a show has political views?

This is a key point. I haven't seen the show, and given its fair to terrible reviews, I highly doubt I ever will. So this has nothing to do with the Newsroom itself, but...

Art should have a point of view. I have no problem with a TV show having a political perspective. In fact, I tend to prefer it, as it shows the creators have an actual perspective and are trying to say something. OK, it would be better if they were saying something that wasn't overtly political, but saying a show has a point of view is not a negative.

24 is the most insanely political conservative drama I've ever seen. It's an apologia for post-9/11 expansion of police powers and torture tactics. I completely disagree with that political viewpoint and find it kind of morally repugnant...

...and I think 24 was a pretty brilliant show for a few seasons. At least it made an argument.

Not one attack on any current problem with the Democrats.

Perhaps Sorkin is attempting to make the content as close to a real network news agency as possible. You'll have a long wait before seeing one of the networks criticize anyone on the left.
