Watching this show and watching Studio 60 makes me wonder who was the real genius behind West Wing. Clearly someone was able to control Sorkin's hatred of Conservatives.

I'm on the record as saying the West Wing is probably the best drama ever. I just finished a rewatch of the whole series and then started Newsroom. Wow. What a disappointment.

The people claiming there isn't a liberal slant must be blind. Almost every single story has been anti-conservative which is fine.

What isn't fine is the flawed ludicrous proposition that Will is a conservative. He has spent the first 6 episodes attacking:

1.Big Business
2.Guns
3.Christians
4.Anti- Gay Marriage Proponents
5.Tea Party Members

Not one attack on any current problem with the Democrats. Really? A conservative who ONLY goes after fringe Conservatives while not taking a SINGLE punch at ANY Democrats.

Balance. They keep pushing this whole BALANCE idea and JUST NEWS while every episode is Will ranting an attacking Conservatives.

Once again, I wonder who kept Sorkin under control on the West Wing set because that person was the real genius.

And on a non-political note, the show is a bit clumsy with the relationshippy stuff.

I'll keep watching hoping they make at least SOME attempt to show both sides which he was able to do on West Wing but has been unable to do since he left WW.

I like some of the characters. I would even like Will if he would just come out of the damn closet and admit he is liberal. Otherwise the show is silly with his non-stop rants against conservative issues when he is allegedly conservative.

AND... if he is just attacking fringe elements then where are the stories with him attacking democrats for blocking REAL NON-FRINGE conservative issues?

So endeth my rant.

I actually hope the show gets better because I do like most of the cast.

Sorkin is adding a number of conservative consultants for the second season, fwiw.

We really needed another thread saying the same exact thing as the other 25 threads already created on the subject.

couldn't have said it better myself

I don't know how much longer I'll be able to stomach this show unless some changes are made, which is sad because it has such potential. I love the performances of Sam Waterston and Jeff Daniels.

Yea, Sorkin said he is bringing them on to bring a political perspective he can't provide for the show.

Hah, well, at least he admits it.

I can't believe there are people on this board who claim that there's no liberal slant on the show.

So to be conservative on has to fall in lock step on every issue? One is not allowed to point out flaws in logic or have a dissenting opinion?

Thats not what he is saying. He's saying they only seem to be going after fringe conservative issues and leaving Liberals alone.
IMO Sorkin is trying to be neutral and this is what he thinks neutral is

Studio 60 was no different than this show. It was nothing but politics, all aimed at conservatives but I did like the characters. The one-sided point of view is what killed the show just as it hurts newsroom.

They should do an episode where Will travels to Kenya to find Obama's real birthplace.

I wish I could say this kind of logic was rare nowadays, but it isn't.

Very true, not everyone is able to look past a show constantly bashing their political views. I did and was dissapointed when it ended, but I understand why a lot of people get upset

I would have continued to watch it, just like I will continue to watch Newsroom. The casts on both shows are great.

Why do people care if a show has political views? If I was writing something it would have my views...frick the other side, I'm not the news. I think it's funny we like the shows we agree with, and despise the ones the we don't.

The Newsroom is heavy handed about it, but it's his show.

I don't really like the show, but when they breakdown the business of media, I think it's so fricking cool. Loved them breaking down the direction of the Nancy Grace episode in the meeting, and when they start talking the statistics of viewers, how they draw them in, how it propels the marketing. Dig that shite. Don't really like most of the inter personal stories of the characters, just the behind the scenes media shite.
