I was scrolling through the program guide and didn't see anything on but this caught my eye... had never seen it before and it was the most rage inducing show ive ever seen... Did TLC create a script and list of excuses for why they are so fat to make the audience hate them? This woman would talk about how hard she was trying to lose weight while chugging coca colas like water from an oasis in the sahara desert. When it got to the point where she met with a doctor and he told her she had 2 months to lose 40 lbs (which is actually easy as hell at 600+ lbs), she could only lose 6. It infuriates me that medical resources go to worthless people like this.

Probably. That, among other reasons, is why I never watch that kind of show. (I confess that I did watch one episode of that midget show "Little Women:LA". Scripted.)

Just watched ten minutes of this slovenly lady pouring 2500 calories worth of thousand island on some iceberg lettuce and swearing to the doctor she just had some green beens and salad. Washed it down with a coca cola. Maddening is right. Her fricking say nothing loser of a husband is pathetic too.

We have an industrial scale calibration and installation division at my work that they have had to bring people to from the doctors offices to get an accurate weight. We have actually engineered it so that the ones that cant walk can be wheeled directly onto it.

What I find interesting with these people is that they feel a change has to be made after they reach 600 pounds or so. Did they not feel things were less than optimal at 500 pounds? Or 400 pounds?

Hell, when they were at 350 things should have began clicking inside their heads.

I saw one episode and the lady ordered domino's pizza for herself for lunch.

She ordered:

Medium meats pizza
Cheesy bread
Fried Chicken
Extra ranch
Extra blue cheese
2 liter ok root beer

Ate and drank all of it, then less than a minute after started talking about how genetics make it hard for her to lose weight.

And you have to agree with her. Her brain is too stupid to comprehend her diet and she is delusional and in denial. Genetically, her parents fricked her brain up.

My favorite are the ones with chubby chaser husbands who are secretly trying to fatten them up while they are trying to loose weight

Good god. How does someone let themselves go to that extent?

They should hoist them up like a marlin.

I've seen almost episode. And although it might feel satisfying to vent like this, I don't see how anyone can do anything but feel extremely sorry for these people. Many (if not most) of them had severe trauma in their childhoods - such as sexual abuse, physical abuse, death of a parent, etc. It's very clear that they are mentally ill in many cases. And the ones who didn't have trauma usually had lousy role models - they are just replicating behavior that was in their homes their entire lives.

In some episodes, their "supporter" is revealed to be a toxic influence and is jettisoned.

I really like Dr. N (who is also the exec produce), as he usually gives it to them very straight (and presumably does the surgery for free.)

I love that damn show......them being fat is always someone else's fault.

Was that the one where she was chugging coca-cola using a twizzler for a straw?

It's an addiction. Like being an alcoholic or a drug addict or a smoker.

To them it's not as simple as "just stop eating so much". It's like telling a heroin addict "If you don't want to be an addict, just don't do drugs".

Correct. And like with heroin addiction, it's usually because of some past trauma. There are plenty of functional heroin users - just as there are plenty of functional people who are big eaters.

They are sick and they are damaged. Self-discipline should be demanded of them, yes, but also human kindness and sympathy should be granted to them.

Plenty.

The most legit show on right now is "how it's made".
