Mud was amazing. Saw it in the theater. Top 2 or 3 for the year for me as well.

Great performances all around, the twists and reveals that make it a great story were never broadcast to the viewer. Just well done on all counts.

Between Mud, Dallas Buyers Club, and Wolf of Wall Street, McConaughy had an amazing year.

Enjoyed it. Definitely in my top 5 for 2013. As others have said, the kid actors were great. McConaughey was solid in his role. Was a bit surprised that Witherspoon has a lesser role but she was good in her limited screen time.

SPOILERS**************************

The only thing I found a bit odd was the under water scene after the big shootout at the end. I guess that was just his white shirt but it suggested that he had died under water. I was a bit relieved by the somewhat happy ending. I guess Mud finally realized that life with Juniper was not meant to be. Witherspoon was money as a trashy slut.

I had the opportunity to watch Mud last night

I knew you were gonna start this thread after I saw you say you watched this on FB.

Loved Mud. Thought it was really great. MM was great and the two kids were really good.

Here were my original thoughts on the movie after I saw it...the whole thing boils down to "women be shoppin."

I guess that's the downside of knowing people on fb and here.

Anyway, your thoughts were on point. I was really hoping Mud would get what he wanted in the end. And to an extent, he got most of what he wanted. Maybe he accepted that Juniper wasn't right for him or her and he made peace with it. You could almost see him making peace with it as he comes out of the boat and looks up.

ETA: You could really tell that MM was wearing a mouthpiece.

There's really nothing unforgettable about the movie, but it was still an all around good film

Yeah, I'm being serious.

***SPOILERS***

Mud says Tom was as close to a dad that he's ever had. Tom also says that he met Mud when he was around Ellis' age and that he was living in the woods.

Also, though, Tom claims Mud is a liar and Mud says Tom was an assassin, so their true identities are somewhat murky.

I know Tom calls him "son" in the ending, but I'm not so sure that's strong evidence. Something to draw a conclusion on, maybe. I've only seen the movie once and I think I missed the first few minutes, so if there's something I missed then I'd like to be filled in.

I really dont think it was his dad, just the closest thing to one he ever had. But I dont think there is anything definitive either way

I liked the role Ellis' dad played in Mud.

Much better than the comedic roles he played as the coach in Blind Side or as the campaign manager in Oh, Brother Where Art Thou.
