JAWS has to the the universal #1. If you were a kid when that came out .....

Interesting a few people mentioned Alpha Dog. I agree. That one stuck with me as disturbing as well.

Natural Born Killers - Just gratuitous violence in a trippy weird high production with an all star cast. Overwhelming celebration of murder and death making a political statement about media and news and all kinds of crazy shite. I saw this one about 10 times too many.

Platoon is a movie I find particularly heavy and sad every time I see it. Interestingly, another Oliver Stone film

Jaws....it would be the Exorcist but I saw it for the first time when I was older and could handle it ok.

The Exorcist.

Saw this for the first time on VHS, at home alone during the day when I was probably 13 or 14 years old, mid to late 80's. I did not "get" why this was considered a scary movie.

Fast forward to 2000, I'm 27 and decide to go see the "never before seen director's cut" at the local theater on a Friday night.

I was not expecting a big crowd, but this place was packed with high school kids, so much so I almost said screw this and left because that theater was notorious for rowdy Friday night crowds.

For some reason I decided to stay, and let me tell you that hardly a soul got up from their seat or made a peep during the entire run time of that movie. I was scared shitless, picking up on so much stuff I didn't notice as a kid. That opening scene where the dogs are fighting...

Good runner up for me is the Shining. Disturbing in so many ways and gave me a few sleepless nights.

JAWS came on network TV around 78 or 79... I was only 4 or 5 at the time and my Dad was hesitant to let me watch it but I begged him and he eventually consented. I ended up falling asleep about halfway through but the next morning when I woke up he asked me how I liked it. I told him that I loved it and he asked me what was my favorite part... I said, "when Jaws ate the little boy on the raft"

Yeah I was a bad seed

Exorcist the beginning. Where the little boy sits and stares in silence as his older brother screams and yells as he’s eaten alive by hyenas. That shite was wild.

The butterfly effect was an extremely fricked up movie. Child porn, one of the kids sets another kids puppy on fire. Kid watching his day get beaten to death in front of him. That’s not even all of it. That movie was a bit much.

I remember feeling uneasy after Star80, about the guy killing his Playboy playmate girlfriend. Very creepy.

When I was a kid there was a made for TV movie about Killer Bees that scared the shite out of me. And the way the show told it, the Killer Bees were just months away from invading America.

I'd lay in bed at night terrified and certain I could hear the buzzing.

frick those bees.

Mars Attacks, I saw it in theaters when I was 7. I wasn’t scared while watching it and enjoyed the movie, but I had nightmares of people being zapped into red and green skeletons for a solid two weeks after. Only time I legitimately dreaded going to bed.
