I know this won't quite be up everybody's ally but whatever. I live in Texas and quite like it. I also love watching movies set in or about Texas. What are some of your favorites?

In the past couple weeks I have watched The Little Picture Show, Texasville, and Lone Star. All are very good movies.

Anybody have any recs or what are some of y'alls favorites?

Hud

Lonesome Dove

No Country for Old Men

A Perfect World

The Buddy Holly Story

Friday Night Lights

Varsity Blues

8 Seconds

Blood Simple

Urban Cowboy

Dazed and Confused

I would include The Highwaymen on Netflix as Texas/Louisiana.

While not as great as some of the others mentioned in this thread, Lone Star State of Mind is a guilty pleaure for me and the wife. Its a fun stupid comedy.

Their duplex in montrose is still there. One of the last blocks of west Dallas that is still hanging on to the old school vibe

Lived in a place just like that

Fans of Hud should check out this film:

Made in 1952, it has the vibe of a McMurtry story given the '50 studio treatment, with the local diner and movie theater presented as the hubs of small town social life.

ETA: My bad - actually it's based on a book by the author of Old Yeller

Watch on YT

Watch the opening credits -- like Hud, they show a lone truck against the landscape.

Hell or High Water is a good one set mostly in west Texas.

Glory Road is a great sports movie about Texas Western’s NCAA championship. Up until Baylor won, it was the only basketball national championship from a Texas school.
