I didn't even know this movie existed. Definitely going to check it out.

I saw someone else mentioned Let the Right One In... the American version, Let Me In, is superb as well.

I am going to go with Michael Clayton. It had some Oscar nominations but I don't feel like it ever got the acclaim it deserved. It was somewhat overlooked because it came out the same year as No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood. For my money it is George Clooney's best performance and it's a pretty great legal thriller with a lot of mythic symbolism throughout.

If Michael Clayton comes out any year other than 2007 in the last ten years it would have had a great shot at best picture.

Phenomenal movie. Everyone in it was stellar, from Clooney to Tilda Swinton (who won an Oscar for BSA) to Tom Wilkinson to even Syndey Pollack.

A couple that are already mentioned in this thread

Apocalypto- this has really fallen by the wayside, considering just how good it is. I don't know if studio contracts or something have prevented it from being aired more on various networks (think FX, etc), but it's a masterpiece epic.

John Carter- this one got caught in the reverse-hype machine, and unfairly so IMO. For all the complaints about it, it more than holds it's own vs any number of blockbuster movies in terms of entertainment and visual style and appeal.

Disney spent over 300 million to make it, and I thought it was pretty good. All I heard was bad things but I just don't see it.

These 2 aren't masterpieces, but I thought they were fun thrillers that I rarely see mentioned:

Changing Lanes - Ben Afleck, Samuel L Jackson
Arbitrage - (Susan Sarandon, Richard Gere)

If you want a decent murder mystery, I enjoyed
Gosford Park

And I'll throw another vote in for Dredd. It's like Diehard meets the setting of Bladerunner.

I think it's just an example of how powerful social media has become. The backlash consisted of:
I hate Disney, so frick this film
so now Disney has Marvel and Star Wars; no longer relevant
it's not a superhero film
sure, there were comics, but it wasn't mainstream. But hey- a lot of us read Conan the Barbarian from Marvel, as much or more than the novels, before Arnold's movies
there's no superstar in this
I've read this complaint a lot, and so what?
it has a plot similar to other sci-fi/fantasies
I loved this. The original story is older, and the other movies are derivatives from the John Carter stories. So yes, by all means, let's criticize the original story for being similar to the new ones

None of the compaints had anything to do with the actual quality of the movie. It was solidly made, the sets were very ornate, it had a lot of fun action, spectacular effects, and many scenes were beautiful to look at. I didn't find the acting to be anything terrible; some of it was quite strong.

This was in no way a B movie.

Anything is 2007 that wasnt No Country for Old Men or There Will Be Blood.

Zodiac
Eastern Promises
Into the Wild
Michael Clayton
Gone Baby Gone
Dan in Real Life
Juno
Atonement
Sweeney Todd
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Lars and the Real Girl

Might be the best year for film. At least 5 films in the list would be in real contention for best film in any other year this decade.

I like Michael Clayton in this category.

I'm offering Moon (2010) as a completely underrated, very high quality film. Ex Machina is another science fiction film that comes to mind - films in the science fiction genre are often underrated, as are comedies, from a critical standpoint.

Once is a great movie, that doesn't get much buzz. One of my favorites.

Just finished watching this... great film.

Brie Larson may be the best actress on the planet right now.

I put it in my horror list, but it applies here...

The Orphanage...

I don't get why it doesn't get universal acclaim, better than Sixth Sense and The Others combined.

It reminds me of the 1980 movie with George C. Scott...The Changeling...which is one of the best and most underrated horror, spooky, ghost story thrillers of all-time.

The Orphanage seems to be similar and has seemed to gotten the similar treatment from the public. Shame.

I grabbed this for like 50 cents out of a bin at Blockbuster when they were having their big closing sales in 2010 or so and loved it.

I'm going to go outside of the 10 year time period...well...because I can.

I never hear anything about Munich or Inside Man, but those are two very good and entertaining movies.

Also, Prisoner with Hugh Jackman.
