quote:I am a movie lover. Which is why Lawrence of Arabia, Citizen Kane, and 2001 would never be classified by me as overrated. I can appreciate them as cinematic masterpieces even though I will likely not watch them on a Saturday afternoon. I think it’s more of your first point, everyone is different.
It's hard to imagine a movie lover thinking these are not great movies.
But like I said earlier, I think people are using “overrated” synonymously with “it wasn’t for me.”

The Brutalist. That absolute dogshit of a movie won 3 Academt Awards and was nominated for best picture.

I have to stop clicking on most overrated threads. I genuinely get mad
Seriously. This is an annual (sometimes more) thread someone posts and then we get a bunch of dumbasses with their shitty opinions trying to be edgy.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
What is wrong with you Were you 12 or something? Crouching Tiger is masterpiece.
Nah, it was hot trash and you fell into the hype train. I'll hit you with one more. Oppenheimer was a fricking snooze fest.

I didn’t see it until probably 4-5 years after it came out. Safe to say the hype had probably died down by then. No telling how many times I’ve watched it over the years, again probably not rewatching based off hype.

I liked it, but yea, I can see why some would think that.

Tombstone.
Too many dandy pretty boys posing and engaging in western tropes throughout the movie.
It’s a costume western.

This is obviously going to be controversial for almost any answer as it’s all personal.
Mine are
Recent movies
Dune- I thought it was awful. Full disclosure I didn’t read the books
Not recent
Green Mile

Napoleon Dynamite. And not overrated from critics/reception but overrated for humor for people who were in high school when it came out.

Which one.
The original - couldn't agree more. Has a huge cult following though.

The movie does suffer from some 90s-esque hyperbole but it’s still a classic.
