I think Garland is pretty hit and miss, but Jessie Buckley is a fantastic actress. She was the best part of the last season of Fargo.

Interesting.
Green Man

The Green Man is a legendary being primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of new growth that occurs every spring. The Green Man is most commonly depicted in a sculpture, or other representation of a face which is made of, or completely surrounded by, leaves.[1]

there was certainly plenty of biblical imagery in that trailer

It looks like A24 is once again trying their hand at folk horror. When done correctly, as in The Wicker Man and even Midsommar, it is one of the most unsettling kinds of horror movies...cults, pagan gods, human sacrifice, etc. This film definitely has my interest, as does their upcoming slasher film "X."

quote:When I was in grade school, some hippies came to the school and did a presentation on the Green Man. I have no idea why, and I have not seen much of it in pop culture since then. Yes, there's the green knight, Bacchus and the Hulk, but the whole lore of the green man is usually omitted.

Probably because the concept of the green man kind of ties all the major historical religions together as a ritualistic fertility cult.
The Green Man, Osiris, Odin, Chronos, the biblical Snake/Satan/Lucifer are all gods of "knowledge and wisdom", are the cause of, or precede, some sort of cataclysmic event that results in long periods of restarting, so to speak, of societies.
That's not the kind of thing you'd want kids putting together early, because then they might check out of major systems that keep things going for politicians and wealthy people.

- walking in lush green garden
- walking in a church with the green man statue
- apple falling from the tree (forbidden fruit/tree of life)
- black serpant skin/scales moving behind "MEN"
probably more, but those were the obvious ones

Garland has directed exactly two movies: Ex Machina and Annihilation. One was awesome, and the other I haven't seen but it looked horrible and got bad reviews (and was a box office flop).
Is this board a huge fan of his directing solely because of Ex Machina? Or does it include his writing too? Because I am reading up on him and I am a fan of some of the movies he's written (28 Days Later, Sunshine, and Dredd).

Still low volume in terms of directing, but his limited series Devs was great too

Annihilation was better than Ex Machina. And Ex Machina was the best film of 2014 and one of the best sci films of the decade.
