Rick Rubin chatting with Paul McCartney about various Beatles, Wings, and solo songs and breaking them down, much like the Classic Album series.

It is so damned good. Up to part three of the six or so. I love when they separate out the tracks on the board. I’m not a musician or creative person, so hearing the individual parts and how they were dreamed up and put together is amazing.

The separated bass track on How My Guitar Gently Weeps, for example, was really eye opening as to how creative those guys were.

Other folks like Clapton and Hendrix come up along the way. Well worth a watch.

I don't have Hulu, but I'll try to watch it. Always been a fan of Rubin.

Thanks for the reminder. I was just scrolling through to find something to watch that I'm not watching with my SO and he's not a big Beatles fan so this works fantastically.

Several are on Amazon Prime and might can find some on YouTube.

Some bands albums they've done are:

Deep Purple/Machine Head

ELP/Brain Salad Surgery

Rush/Moving Pictures

Steely Dan/Aja, (this one is on YT)

U2/Joshua Tree

The Band/the Band

Cream/Disreali Gears

And many many more. They are excellent!

Will check out the McCartney show tonight.

watched it thru last night, amazing.
glad they focused on the songwriting process which is frankly hard to comprehend...those four guys were cranking out classic original songs out of whole cloth in the studio with groundbreaking arrangements in a matter of hours, then on to the next

You could tell that Rubin had a hard time getting his head around how that was possible considering he’s spent his adult life in recording studios. The Beatles were a miracle

prime/youtube, like the other guy said.

theyre so good, theyve made me appreciate albums that ive otherwise always been indifferent too (Aja and Face Value specifically).

sadly some are disappointing. but most of the ones ive seen have been great.

highly recommend Graceland, Disreali Gears, Anthem to Beauty, Rumors, and Dark Side of the Moon.

my favorite though was Queen's A Night at the Opera.

Watched all 6 today. They are greatness for a Beatle fan or any music fan interested in how we got where we are musically today. I love the isolated tracks and the insight from someone who was in the room.
Highly recommend.

Incredible documentary. What a miracle these four got together at that time and place in musical history. The magic that was Paul, John, George and Ringo will never be duplicated.

I’m watching because of this thread. It’s pretty cool and I always love hearing McCartney talk about the Beatles and that time. And it’s funny/cool to see Rick with an amazed grin on his face listening to Paul. He’s like a little kid.

I like when they listen to the stripped down different parts of the songs. That’s cool as well.

It does bug me that Paul is chewing fricking gum the whole time though.

I’m three episodes in and am interested to see what songs are next to come.

Drawback of being a legend. No one has the balls to tell you to spit your gum out.

Huge Beatles fan and this is easily my favorite documentary I've seen on their music. AS mentioned, the approach and style of the doc is just fascinating to watch and means more knowing Paul is the last and won't be around forever.
