Captain Marvel needs the tie with A4 and people need to feel it’s crucial to see it in order to understand A4. It will make more money that way

This just seems like wishful thinking to get a trailer this week

Obviously the tie in could be built up until Marvel's release and the promise of a full length trailer for avengers 4.

Releasing one trailer, then the other days apart just would case much confusion. The general public is stupid. They thought Rogue One was episode 8.

I could see them releasing the title this week and possible a teaser in a couple weeks, the full length trailer in front of captain marvel or for the end credit scene.

If they wanted the week to belong to avengers, which it would if they released a trailer this week, it would be getting the Monday night football spot. Not Captain Marvel.

If you think 400 people on twitter equates to the general public, idk what to tell you.

This isn't about causing confusion. It's about keeping the two in the same sentence which is obviously working since the buzz is about both of them together. The point is to get people to think they HAVE to see CM before A4... which may actually be the case. That ambiguity (for now at least unless they just come out and say it) is a solid marketing tactic.

There were more than 400 people lol. It's the exact reason why disney didn't overlap Star Wars marketing. Obviously Marvel is a different animal. I could be totally wrong but would be super surprised if they released both this week.

The point is that the total isn't nearly high enough to equate to "general public."

Yes. One where a (re: the) major release could be dependent on an origin story. You and I know that but the casual movie-goers who send movies like Avengers into the billions need to know it, too.

ETA: The whole point being that the marketing isn't for people who frequent this board. They have to target the people who already want to see A4 yet know nothing about CM or why they should see it, which means huge TV spot during halftime (hoping for a better audience mix?) and then teasing A4 soon after for the tie-in.

Guess we will see. It does look like its gaining steam for Wednesday tease.

And I still maintain that the general public is stupid when it comes to this stuff haha.

I totally agree with that

The marketing doesn't overlap because there has been a year between each Star Wars movie. There is going to be overlap when two movies in a series get released 2 months apart.

The F4
Doom
Cyclops
Storm
Namor
Silver Surfer

Norman Osborn

And more then they’ll dominate for the next 10-15 years.

Marvel's cosmic landscape has been successfully created by Guardians and Ragnarok. Perfect place to let the FF loose.

Norman Osborne, Kang, and Doom are a necessity now. Such great villains if done properly. Osborne needs a deep connection to Spiderman, though, and Sony's legal agreements with Disney/Marvel over other Spider characters may muck up that possibility.

I believe use of Namor is still tangled up in licensing and another studio still has the rights. I could be wrong. Also maybe too soon after Aquaman (even though Namor came first in comics)

As for X-Men, I hope they do a re-launch but maybe hold onto some of the cast. Fassbender is a great Magneto. Ditch the Mystique as hero schtick. She's so much better as a villain. J. Lawrence had to go get famous and force them to make her a central character.

If you recast Wolverine, be very careful about it. A whole generation came up with Jackman's portrayal. I'm old enough to know that the comics version was very different up until then.

Solo was 5 months after last jedi.

Obviously the movies release date is closer than star wars, I just don't think they have to release a teaser this week. They could let people get excited for Captain Marvel. To me, it makes more sense to wait a couple weeks. Its looking like I might be wrong and they go with Wednesday

Bad example for marketing. And you referenced Rogue 1 which was a year between releases both before and after.

I said star wars and used R1 as an example.

And they totally waited to market Solo until the superbowl. That has been their strategy with the star wars films. I even stated Marvelis a different animal.

Although marvel (movie production) spaced out marketing for most of their movies. Just look at the last year. Full push on thor. Then black panther. Then avengers. Finally Ant Man.

They don't really need to market A4, let's be honest. It is already set to be a cultural event. What they need is to make sure people see Captain Marvel, to launch the Phase 4 films where she should be a central character.

That means making Captain Marvel required viewing for people who want to see A4. You gotta show some sort of tie-in.

Just want to point out that Black Panther was in the IW trailer before his own movie was released as well - Get this man a shield.

It’s not wishful thinking at all. You’re just playing devils advocate at this point because you think CM can stand on her own. She can’t. Not yet. She needs the Avengers pull just like Ant Man and the Wasp did

I'm not playing devils advocate. And I don't necessarily think Captain Marvel is fine on her own. It just seems like dropping an avengers trailer this week will have more people talking about the avengers than Captain Marvel. All I'm saying.
