Opinion on Mark Wahlberg as an actor.
Mediocre. Good in some stuff, bad in others. Pretty limited range it seems like.

Am I the only one who thinks that This is a Dan type thread.

I like him in certain movies but I think that was merely because his acting style suited those roles.
Even though I really liked him in Boogie Nights, I think his acting overall is pretty turrible.

He was the weak link in The Departed.

Rock Star, which he starred in, was the worst movie I have ever seen.

Wouldn't he need to correctly piece together the wrong machine in order for it to work so he could be more wrong?

He's a pretty average actor. He was good in The Departed but that was only a supporting role. I'd say the best thing I've seen him in that he was the star was The Yards.

here is his new movie coming out the Fighter...he might be trying to be Rocky but it still looks decent IMO.

I like him. Having said that, he hasn't topped Boogie Nights, which was like 13 years ago.

point taken. I understand that its based on a true story and a good one at that, but the trailer has a rocky feel to it. I still think it will be a good movie though.

it's a lot easier to believe an Irish dude can go toe to toe with Arturo Gotti 3 times and never really be known as the greatest fighter ever, but a scrappy Irish guy with a lot of heart vs a neighborhood street thug that goes on to beat up the best black fighter of that time and later destroy Mister T. And not only all that unbelievable shite, but then ends up ending the Cold War by beating a russian that killed the one time greatest black fighter in the 2nd round of an exhibition. Oh, and that's not enough.....well lets have it end 6 years later where he's no longer a boxer but he trains a fighter that happens to be white and again becomes world champion(UNBELIEVABLE). Oh but it can't end there, lets come back 15 years later when he's 70 and let him fight the new black heavy weight champ and not get killed.
Irish Mickey Ward > Rocky
but not Rambo. That shite totally probably happened.

I agree with you MJC. Rocky stopped being good at #2 and started becoming entertaining after that. You really can't take 3 and 4 seriously. I refuse to acknowledge the existence of #5, and I thought that #6 was decent.

I'm ashamed to admit this but 4 was probably my favorite and the soundtrack gets me pretty krunk.

I always thought of him like a joke because of the funky bunch days and his brother being in NKOTB. I never took him seriously. I changed my mind after I watched Basketball Diaries. He was solid enough in that to convince me that he wasn't so much the Marky Mark anymore and Boogie Nights totally convinced me.
Now, he's just hit or miss on movies and limited range. But that's not uncommon in Hollywood though.
His new talent seems to be producing now. His Closet To The Hole company is putting some good stuff out he knows what guys 18-45 want to see.

meh
he can be good, but when he goes into his soft melow voice/acting he is down right horrific.

i hate when he does this. its also a direct result of him acting like he is always out of breath. i.e. the Happening (horrible)

I tend to agree with that mostly.
I'm not really a Mark Wahlberg fan, but I don't hate him either. I do find that a lot of his movies are overrated IMO though.
