It’s honestly sickening. There was absolutely no reason they had to take a character who meant so much to so many and just make him incomprehensible, miserable and ultimately irrelevant. We all knew Luke was going to die but why in the hell did it have to go down the way it did? Frankly, I’m surprised Mark Hamil didn’t take one look at that script and say, hell no im not doing this shite. What were they going to do, replace him?

That would be amazing and awesome if he’d said FU upon reading the script.

But he saw the paycheck.

I wonder how Lucas feels.
I mean, he created a masterpiece that captivated billions.

And yeah, years later, instead of doing the sequels, like he should have, he did the weaker prequels and dropped the ball a bit. He made poor decisions.

But then he signed it all over...and to an entity that cares nothing for integrity or the characters we fell in love with. They are agenda driven, not story driven.

And now they have sullied his creation beyond repair.

The crown may weigh heavy, but passing it to an enemy for some gold is unconscionable

I’m not sure what the script said. From what we know it sounds like they filmed a TON of scenes and then pieced together something after filming. For example, if Mark is shocked my his character’s fate at the premiere, it obviously wasn’t in the script.

My soul just cried out a little after watching that. I liked the movie, but this makes it hard to like honestly.

They may have killed his character without him knowing because they never filmed a death scene for him. Just CGI. Just a fricking CGI disappearance death for the most iconic movie character of the science fiction genre. fricking garbage.

According to several sources, Hamill didn't know Luke had been killed as they'd done it in post-production. The footage is of him, right after having seen it.

I feel like the Alabama gif girl:

Just utter amazing shock that they would do that. I really hope that isn't true. That'll keep me from watching this movie til it comes out on tv (if then) and doing the same for the next episode too.

This quote makes me think maybe Hamil knew about Luke’s death:

quote:

“Well, I’m still in denial,” Hamill joked about the fact he’s no longer alive in the “Star Wars” universe. “I just think he transported somewhere else…The first thing I said [to Rian] was, ‘Can’t you wait and do this in Episode IX?'” Ending Luke’s storyline felt necessary for Johnson so that the third and final installment in the current “Star Wars” trilogy could focus entirely on ending the stories of Rey, Finn, Poe, and Kylo Ren. Johnson never viewed “The Last Jedi” as Luke’s movie to begin with, citing “The Return of the Jedi” as the end of Luke’s hero journey.

At this point, I wish they would have just left the original characters out of these movies altogether rather than using them to prop up their new, weaker characters.

Everyone in this movie failed.

Rey failed
Finn failed
Poe failed
Luke failed
Puce-hair failed
Leia failed
Snoke failed
The general from Slitherin House failed
Ren failed
Brienne of Tarth fails everywhere she goes

Femininity was no better at gaining success than masculinity in this film. There was an equality of failure. That being said it is truly a shame what they did to Luke,Leia and Han’s characters. Luke should have been the equal of Palpatine by now. I would have expected Leia to be a practiced Force user. She should have been able to use Force Guilt to get her son to do anything she wanted.

I enjoyed the movie.

That video and story behind it is sad.

I love the guy, and he is almost a national treasure witht he Joker, Luke, etc, But Mark Hamil doesn't own Luke Skywalker it is a character he played. It sucks they couldn't at least work together and IMO I think they did his exit pretty well (Obi Wan went out very similarly) He will be a force ghost now, it had to happen.

More than Luke, though, they are shitting on the Jedi Order. it's obvious what they are doing, they are handing off Star Wars to the next generation. The whole movie was about burning everything down and starting anew. Luke becomes a necessary catalyst for this to happen amd even has the blessing of Yoda. This is the only movie they called the Jedi a "religion" based around the force and it's time to stop basing everything on that. Do we need 9+ movies about the Skywalkers and the Jedi/Sith war or should we move in a new direction? It would start to get stale eventually. People hated The Force Awakens because it was a total rehash of ANH. Johnson turns Star Wars upside down instead and equally gets shitted on. It's like I said earlier, Star Wars is too big for its own good, anything that ever comes out about the OT characters is going to be shitted on by half of the fan base literally no matter what.

Would I have done it different? Yes.

Check out this article from slashfilm that basically says TLJ doesnt care what you think about star wars and why its a good thing, I tend to agree with most of it.

It is certainly time to move on from the Skywalkers. I saw the movie again last night and it wasn’t as bad on the second watch. If they had eliminated the slow bombers, landed at the casino and picked up the stylish hacker it would have been cleaner story. That guy looked like a great character.

Because of all the books written after the OT people had high hopes for the 6 newer stories. The five made so far are disappointing.

I absolutely hated Luke until Yoda showed up to him and changed him back.
