I've decided on another comparison: Lost is like a giant puzzle with square pieces. You can put it together however you want, no two puzzles could be the same if you so choose. But, I wouldn't call anyone particularly genius for making something about of a bunch of identical square pieces.

Not that good of an analogy since the picture on the puzzle wouldn't make any sense. Stick with your old one.

One of the greatest sci fi shows of all time and one of the best of last decade?

Blank pieces, so you could make whatever form you want. I changed the original.

One of the most popular, if not the most popular certainly. But it's not great.

We don't call Britney Spears an great artist, yet she sold tons of albums. Popularity =/= measure of quality.

FWIW, Lost has become more fantasy than science fiction, especially with this episode.

The key difference between the two has always been a set of accepted rules, fantasy has none, neither does Lost.

You're right, it's laughable to think this show is that much more intelligent that anything else on television, problem is, that's the idea all the Lost fans promote

this I heartily agree with. I've come to like Lost for what it is---pure entertainment in a pulpy sort of genre.

I don't see how people think its the most "intelligent" show ever. Just because they throw out a bunch of random references to stuff and stamp logos on sharks doesn't make it smart.

its fun, there are a wide variety of characters to root for and against and you never know where the show might go. that is what makes it fun.

The storytelling/writing/narrative/character motivations/plot are severely lacking in 75% of the episodes.

I'm looking forward to an enjoyable finale.

You are missing the vibe man. I can talk about the seriously flawed writing and plot/ on the show and still enjoy it as pure entertainment. I love John Candy movies, but I'm not claiming they deserve the Oscar.

The issues I have are with the long time Lost devotees who think its the most brilliant thing ever written. They simply don't understand anything about story telling/developing characters/meaningful plot elements, etc...

most are trying to validate their 6 year commitment to the show.

I am THE biggest Star Wars fan in the world. I saw all the prequels about 6 times each at the theatres for pure enjoyment, but I will be the first to scream that Lucas screwed them up BIG TIME! and it could have been so much better.

Its called being objective

It's like the forgot this was the last season.

This is my biggest gripe with Lost. While I have enjoyed this last season a lot, it really was filled with a good bit of seemingly worthless filler episodes. I remember in the first half of the season I'd always write on here about how the episodes were good, but they just didn't seem to be going anywhere or advancing the story at all. With all the shite that has been crammed into Lost (by both the creators and the fans), you'd think they would have had a better vehicle to get to the plot finale. And they didn't.

I'm not pissed off about it per se, but definitely a little disappointed in the way this season has panned out. Especially looking at the season as a whole, with the benefit of hindsight. Lots of gripes have been occuring about the amount of "hiding in the woods" and shite like that. And looking back on the season, I think that's legitimate.

I am still very hopeful and confident that teh finale will deliver, at the very least, a decent close to the series. And honestly, it won't take a whole lot to please me, as I'm in the "along for the ride" camp more than the "analyze eery single thing and make sure it's all connected and on-point" camp. Could I be disappointed? Sure. But as long as they put forth a little effort into the finale, I'll be fine. And I'm sure I'll have a better understanding (appreciation?) of the show once it's all over and I can just sit down and watch them all on DVD in a short period of time.

Give me a break. Are you really saying that Brittney Spears trash is remotely comparable to LOST. Brittney's music appeals to the lowest common denominator, something even you have to admit LOST doesn't do. It really doesn't give a damn if you are too stupid to keep up and will leave you behind.

Crappy MTV Reality shows are the tv equivalent Brittney Spears. At least get some stoner band that thinks its preaching deeper meanings of life over Brittney Spears if you are going to use an analogy like that.

Its really a hybrid. The sci fi stuff is deeply set in rules (course correction, whatever happened happened, etc), while the fantasy stuff in LOST really isn't.

I don't think many Lost fans feel this way. Somehow Lost fans got this rep based on a few idiots. I just enjoy the show. I am a little disappointed with the abundance of inconsistencies, but the show still entertains me, and that's more than I can say for most. It had the potential to be an all-time great, but they tried to do too much and couldn't tie it all together.

LOST is to TV what Tool is to music. How's that comparison?

LOST's centric episodes are an advantage and a disadvantage. It sometimes prevents the plot from moving forward by focusing on characters that aren't influencing events around them, but it also allows you to know the characters better. Therefore there will likely be some episodes that don't add much to the overall plot.

I am not overly nervous about the finale since LOST has pretty much always delivered in every way during finales. They've had years to plan this finale in particullar to where I think the finale should be great. Yes this is off of blind fate, but I do expect it to be great.

I will as well. If the finale does not meet my expectations, I will be here bitching about it. I'm not a fan who follows this blindly, as I proved 2 episodes ago.

While I think it will go down as an all time great, I basically agree with this post. It will be remembered for some of its flaws, but people will look at the big picture more than the smaller flaws. However the small flaws in the finale will certainly be remembered more than any other episode.

The point is, JUST because she is popular, doesn't mean she is great. Just because Lost is successful monetarily, and popular, doesn't mean the show is great. That's all.
