gotcha. When he judged Ben, he had already cleared out the temple with Sayid's help I think? And the ash was presumably broken. Dogen's protection gone.

Ben's judgement was in Season 5, while Sayid killing Dogen and cleaning out the Temple was in Season 6.

I don't think that took place in the temple. It looked like the room where the disassembled the bomb which was next to the Dharma barracks.

Right. Jacob wants Locke back because he's a candidate. MIB wants Locke back because of the loophole.
But Locke was dead. My only point is that Jacob has absolutely no reason to want dead Locke on that island. I get the other people being there in that "he needs a replacement." I won't even ask why he needs them, but for some reason he does. But it is pretty illogical for Team Jacob to want dead Locke back on the island.

Imagine how many pages the finale thread will end up being.

This assumes two things:

1) that Jacob had someway to communicate to Ben that a dead Locke isn't the same as an alive Locke while Ben was off the island.

and

2) Ben is a member of Team Jacob.

See the two assumptions.

Jacob certainly had no problem talking to Hurley. Also, Eloise was the one that was insistent that they all had to "go back together." If Eloise is on Team Jacob, it all falls apart. She knew Locke was dead. Again, I have no idea if she is or isn't at this point in time, but if she is, uh oh.

All Ben wanted to do was get back to the island. I don't think he really cared one way or the other if what he was doing was going to hurt Jacob's overall plan.

I'm fairly certain Jacob took the form of Christian to speak with Jack and Charlie to speak with Hurley while they were off the island. But we don't know the rules or mechanism for Jacob leaving the island, so we have no way of knowing whether he could have told Ben or Eloise to not bring back dead Locke.

This may be answered tonight, but do we know for sure that the ashes only prevent MIB from moving or do they also work for Jacob?

Has it been confirmed that it was MIB locked in the Cabin?

The reason I ask is because we saw MIB in the form of Christian and Yemmi throughout the first five seasons, but we never saw Jacob except the Cabin (supposedly). If Jacob was the one locked in the Cabin, then it makes more sense that he would be unable to communicate with Ben off island.

But then that leaves the problem with Christian appearing to Jack off island.

I'm back at home now. Just wanted to chime in that bringing dead Locke back was a substitute for Christian, in recreating the conditions of the original flight. So like OM said before, they wanted to save the original timeline, I guess, and this was a part of that?

I don't think Ben is really on any team, quite honestly. He's on Team Ben.

I can't wait for tonight. I will have to figure out a way to toast the penultimate episode with a drinking game.

Drink every time someone makes a post in a LOST thread. You should be right in no time.

I like that plan ($1 to Lapidus (speaking to Sawyer) from the Last Recruit episode).

Probably better as a separate thread but OML without a doubt.

I understand that line of thinking but there was a point that Ben told Eloise that he wasn't going to be able to get everyone on that flight and she said something to the effect of "We'll just have to make do with what we've got."
