so no one thinks my thought that widmore wants to find the electromagnetic energy is because it can be used to hold in MIB or causes the sinking of the island?

Since the island sinks, MIB is destroyed since he cant really cross water.

First of all I think he was lying about not being able to cross the water since he was likely manifested as Christian when Sun and Lapidus met him, and this was the same night that the Ajira survivors first met Locke. I think its been established that the Monster can teleport in some form. The main goal was for Locke to distract Widmore so Sayid could infiltrate them.

are we really given a timetable in the alt timeline?
thus, is jin and sun going to the hospital where jack is currently? and is claire still there?

Here's how much time has passed in each of the sideflashes:

Kate: Less than 1 day
Locke, Jack, Sayid, Jin: 3 days
Sawyer: 4 days
Ben: 7 Days

I actually liked his follow up better:

"Oh because THAT would be ridiculous."

that's a completely different approach from my simple mind

I always assumed that Widmore wants power. Power and money. What better way to amass both than with time travel. He doesnt give a frick about MIB, other than he's a necessary nuisance, and he's willing to deal with Jacob, but that old frick wants to control time and space so he can rule the world

to me, while his character may be very complex, he is driven by a motive that is simple

Yes! I laughed out loud at that. I'm glad they are working in this disbelief thing with the characters on the show, because all fans are feeling it too.

That is definitely the most reasonable and simple solution to Widmore's purpose. Something about last night's encounter just gives me a feeling Widmore is going to help.

It would definitely make an interesting few episodes if Jacob's people are having to not only fight with MIB to keep him on the island, but also have to stop Widmore from trying to harness the power of the island for his own benefit. A three way war on the island.

I think you'll see Ben, Ilana, Jack, Widmore, and Sawyer team up to defeat MIB, but then all bets are off after that

Sayid is still the x-factor to me. I haven't completely given up hope that he will ultimately redeem himself at the 11th hour and be the one that sacrifices himself to save the everyone else and kill/trap MIB

BTW the backgammon analogy still works with what is going on. The object is to get all your pieces off the board. MIB is trying to get his pieces off the island via the plane. Jacob is trying to get his pieces to...sacrifice themselves? Still haven't figured that one out yet but the preview to the next episode looked pretty damn epic talking about "sacrifices to be made" and "new paths" being formed.

I was wondering where you got all this "sacrifice" jazz...I guess I didn't catch that.

Just curious - How does Jin translate to Shin-O-Shee or whatever the frick Sun keeps saying?

Isn't Shinoshee the company that Sun's father owns?

Maybe when Keamy said that "some people just aren't meant to be together" he wasn't talking about Sun and Jin but perhaps Jin and their daughter. He has yet to meet her in reality and if Sun miscarries in the sideways he will not know her there either.

Just a thought.

That's the same thing I thought when he said that too...that it was either meant for him and Sun, or him and the daughter.

opposed to actually watching the commercials?

That comment was meant to show my disdain for the frequency of commercial breaks during Lost. It seems like less and less show every week, and more and more commercials.

I think that was the point of Sayid's story in Sundown to show that he is and always was completely irredeemable, while Ben shows the opposite. I really don't think Sayid will redeem himself before the end.

Sayid is a scary mofo right now. A dude with his background and no feelings is not someone I would want to be around.

Dogan said that Claire had the same darkness as Sayid, but Claire still feels a bond with Aaron and still feels anger toward the one who took him. I wonder what the difference is. Perhaps time, perhaps an inconsistency by the writers, perhaps something else.

I like the "sick" Sayid much better than "nice-guy" Sayid
