I laughed out loud when she said, "Any question I answer will simply lead to another question." I think there is a not-so-subtle message to the audience in that clip.

maybe. But he needed a way to get Jack on the plane and for him to stay off it. The way things were set up, it would have been hard to pull off.
Also, Sawyer already mentioned that the Sub is the easiest/only way to get off that Island.

Not a chance. Widmore brought Desmond to either counteract/neutralize the EM, gather up the Losties in alt land to let them remember their island lives, and possibly sink one of the EM pockets and sink the island again. I don't think the latter will happen though, given what alt Daniel has been telling alt Desmond, and they're gonna need a way off the island too (with no pilot for a plane, assuming Lapidus is dead which I think he is).

I'm not to that point yet. We know that Widmore has a list and it's safe to assume that list is from Jacob and it includes the names of the remaining candidates. Widmore might be hardcore (his willingness to off Kate), but I still think he is on Team Jacob and that he put the Losties in the cages for their safety. I can only assume that he left the Hydra in time before Smokie showed up.
I believe that Widmore is probably on his way to retrieve Desmond in order get him to do something involving a large EM release, possible causing another quantum event. From there, who knows...

i think the C4 was just a ploy to instill trust in MIB. "look i just saved you from this"
all the while knowing sawyer's distrust of him would grow making sure jack would keep MIB off the sub (not that it mattered).
also jack wasn't going to get on the plane. the gun fight with widmore's group allowed kate to get shot and jack to get on the sub.

This thread is starting to get a little dangerous to read with the semi-spoilers being posted and the responses to these which are likely not marked as potential spoilers (I am avoiding reading them), so I will be getting out of here until the next episode. I have only one thing to add...

If I am correct, Bram tried to convince Miles not to work for Widmore, saying he was on the wrong team. I am pretty sure Bram was on Jacob's team. Therefore, Widmore may not be on Jacob's team. He may not be on MIB's team either. There may be Jacob vs. MIB vs. Widmore.

They all have to die or they all have to leave. Basically, MIB can't leave if there is a living candidate on the island.
Jack wasn't getting on the plane, so MIB had to improvise.
Youtube is blocked at work, can anyone go back and see when MIB handed the booksack to Jack with the C4 in it? Was it after Kate was shot?
