Sawyer tampered with the bomb. It was going to explode. Had the bomb sat on the table, he would've been responsible for his own death.

It wouldn't have blown up!

Just like the dynamite that Jack lit.

When Jacob touches you, you can't commit suicide.

Btw, here is my count of who is left (separated by group).

1. Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Hurley

2. Ben, Alpert, Miles (where in the hell are they?)

3. Locke and Claire

4. Cindy and the others (dispersed in the jungle)

5. Widmore, Tina Fey, etc.

6. Desmond

7. Rose and Bernard

Hopefully, these groups will start merging (or dying) so we don't have 7 to follow.

So if Sayid doesn't move it, it doesn't go off?

Suicide = voluntary act.

Was Sawyer trying to kill himself?

i think he is saying that if Sayid didnt take it and run with it after sawyer messed with it, it would have killed sawyer and he would have been responsible for his own death

Sayid did move. That is the whole point.

I understand that is what happened, but still don't get it. I mean, the whole MIB/Jacob thing is supposed to be about them killing themselves. It isn't like sawyer did anything wrong or stupid. He tried to help everybody by dismantling a bomb. That was the common sense thing to do. Not sure how that proves Jacob "wrong" in any way

MIB couldn't kill the candidates. The C-4 directly killed Sun. So she cannot be a candidate. Jin, on the other hand, choose to stay with Sun and die so he would have to be 'the Kwon' candidate.

That's because Sawyer tampered with it. Do you think that if Sayid didn't run out of the room all of the candidates would have survived?

I stand corrected. You, Antonio Moss and Stu have made very logical arguements. But in a sense, any and all candidate 'pieces' that are taken off the board is advantageous for MIB.

Isn't this just speculation? Do the "rules" of the game apply if the candidates are not on the island? If the sub was going to take "at least" five minutes to re-surface, how far away from the island was it?

Just because the previous dynamite that Jack lit did not go off it seems to be a pretty big jump to conclude that the candidates cannot kill themselves. We saw how unstable some of the dynamite was when Ilana got blown up, so maybe the dynamite Jack was holding was just a dud.

On a side note: How did MIB know there was dynamite on the plane? He took the watch off the guy he shot before he went on the plane (so he knew he was going to need a timer) before he found the C4. If the forcefield shield had just gone down, then he would not have been doing re-con prior to his trip to the plane, thus, he would not have known that it was there.

Also, I am confused as to Locke's strategy now when he said (I have to finish my work). I can see Widmore killing them, but I really don't see them killing each other now. Locke has shown his true colors and Jacke etc. should be smart enough to not be stupid.

This is assuming that Sawyer isn't an idiot when he wakes up. I'll flip a lid if he blames Jack for the Sub incident.

Nothing shown so far leads anyone to conclude that those touched by Jacob can't be responsible for their own deaths, only that they can't commit suicide.

RIP Sayid. At least he was able to go out in typical Arab fashion by blowing up with a bomb strapped to his chest.

Exactly my point. Josh Norris may be correct but if he is its atrocious writing by the writing team.

What's equally as funny is a person too dumb to understand the difference between a prediction and a proclamation.
