I don't know if we can assume that the bomb's explosion was as catastrophic as we think. I know it sounds stupid but maybe the energy pocket limited the bomb's effect. Who knows?

Damn you are right I totally forgot about that. This show really messes with your head.

Do you think Jacob ever discussed Black with Richard or if Richard even knows Black exists?
I think Richard is aware of the dangers of Black and part of his job is to help the Island people avoid evil. He is the Holy Spirit in my opinion.
quote:
Any significance with Jacob telling Hurley that he is blessed, not cursed?
Sure, he is God and telling Hurley that has been given gifts
quote:
In regards to the incident, was the bomb going off what happened in the original incident or was it just the electromagnetic pocket being released?
Not sure, but I think it was just the EM
quote:
it almost makes the Losties ordeal insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
Kind of like all of our everyday problems?

I am thinking that the Island's energy pocket somehow absorbed the power unleashed by the nuclear bomb and maybe it even increased the power of the electromagnetism thereby necessitating the hatch to be built and the energy to be controlled.

quote:i think it's pretty clear that there was either safe havens (underground stations, labs, temples, etc.) or a negated blast because a lot of people on the island during the incident lived through it
If the incident was the bomb negating the electromagnetic pocket, I don't think he had a chance to get far enough away to be safe from the blast.

i am tempted to call him Esau too. in the bible, Jacob was the undeserving deceiver. he tricked his father into thinking he was his older brother Esau so that the father would grant him the birthright that should rightfully go to the first born.
Actually Esau sold his birthright to Jacob and then tried to renege on his agreement. Jacob had to trick Issac to get what was rightfully his.
As far as the bomb detonation, with it being ungerground, it problably wouldn't have that much effect because countries still do underground testing to date without too much fanfare. Maybe the explosion will cause another incident where the Losties return to the present?
I kinda like the Garden of Eden view. Adam and Eve, Tree of Life (Jacob) and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil (NonLocke). Mixed with Egyptian and other religious beliefs, freaking great.
All I know is Lost is the greatest show ever on TV!!

After this finale I am going to have to dust off the first season DVDs and rewatch from the beginning.

We were told previously that Nadia was "murdered" so there is more to that scene than her just getting hit with a car.
Yes, Ben showed Sayid pictures from a traffic camera of a suspicious man (seen hanging around Nadia's funeral) who just happened to be in the area of where Nadia was killed.
Also, we know how much Sayid loved and cared for Nadia. Jacob knew there was no way Sayid would leave Nadia to go back to the island so he has to take her out of the picture. IMO, if Jacob doesn't stop Sayid for directions, they make it to the other side of the street safely. Nadia only gets hit once she stops to come back to Sayid.

I am gonna completely disagree. I watched it a second time and Jacob is completely benevolent and all about free will. Unlike Ben, Widmore, and Eloise, he isn't about "coercing" anyone back to the Island.
It isn't in Jacob's nature to purposely let nadia die. He could save Sayid so he did.

is anyone else not to happy with the whole jesus sacrifice thing? it seems a little too cliche for me
Free will v. destiny, whatever happened happened v. you can change the past ... I see these themes continuing on but I don't think (and it is just my opinion) that the show will go for an overt religious theme moving forward.
Someone refresh my memory, haven't the writers even said that there will be a scientific explination for everything when it's all said and done?
Posted on 5/14/09 at 11:25 am to TigerInBamaLand
if they start getting into the whole dark matter thing i really will pop a vein
Posted on 5/14/09 at 11:31 am to manwich
Well I was wrong anyway I guess; I'm not sure where I got the idea that they said that (the scientific explination thing) but here is a quote that I did find:
So I guess it could all be mystical. I still am not buying into the God vs the Devil, Jesus thing just yet though. I don't think that they have shown us all their cards yet.
quote:
But we're always trying to skirt that line between the two possible explanations, the scientific one or a mythical and magical one, and we are purposefully ambiguous about which one might be correct. Obviously, certain things fall into the science category and certain things fall more into the mystical category, and that just sort of depends on what story we're telling that week.
So I guess it could all be mystical. I still am not buying into the God vs the Devil, Jesus thing just yet though. I don't think that they have shown us all their cards yet.

This sucks for me. I never watched LOST until last fall when SciFi started showing it. I've watched every episode in order catching up to the current season. Now I have to wait until 2010?

I've been rewatching them online. My wife is interested in the show and clearly needed to start from the beginning. So we're halfway through season 1 right now.
