I hated to see that show end, even if it needed to. What an awesome series. Probably my favorite. It was fun watching them week in and week out having all my friends over and watching the episodes in silence except for commercials

polarizing but I think they did a fine job with it.

If you loved the show prepare to chop some onions.

Before you come here after watching it, sit and think about the whole show for 10-15 minutes. I did this and it really helped me grasp what happened.

I'd honestly sleep on it before coming and asking questions.... Your feelings will most likely change.

I feel like the Lost finale is one of these rare cases where fans will never admit how uneventful it really was. By no means is it bad, but I know a few Lost die hards that can't bring themselves to admit that it it didn't live up to the series standard at all, and certainly not the standard of a series finale.

Here we go.....

My initial theory was that everyone had died on the initial plane crash. Jacob brought them to the island to resolve all their real world problems and be free of them by "growing" on the island. The "purgatory" was the final step in ascending. The problem with that is there are some characters still alive that went into the church. Penny, Ben, Hugo....

After talking with my coworker he said that everything on the island actually happened. Jacob "brought" them there to resolve their issues but were still alive. The "purgatory" was just a waiting area for the rest of them. I have an issue with that theory. Is the "purgatory" in the far far future? The people that were dead were in there, I got that. But, the people alive were in there also.

Now for the questions...

How did the man in black become smoke?

What was that statue? I thought it was an egyptian goddess of fertility. (Tawaret) That's why when it was broken the women couldn't have babies.

What were the pockets of Electromagnetism? Were they just part of the island and nothing more?

After the light was restored, why didn't Jack heal?

(statement) Jack never said words to the water for Hugo.

Time travel on the island. WTF? Never explained.

(statement) Whitmore actually had no role at all in anything.

(statement) The show never looked back on those two that were buried alive. I was like WTF for a few episodes.

The mechanism at the bottom of the Orchid, who built that for the time travel?

(statement) The Dharmi Init. had no real role.

WTF on the Jughead? It just appeared. I know they said there was testing, but doesn't Jacob allow/reject people coming? Did it actually do anything positive?

If that was Jacob's plans, why didn't he just do what Desmond and Jack did to the light and kill his brother?

(statement) (pre main story) A little communication could have helped a lot of situations.

If the island is real... Why were there dead people still on it? (Michael) Could they not move on? I believe this makes my theory more sound.

I'm sure I have more after getting some answered.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I don't understand why so many people still don't realize that everything happened. Christian point blank, flat out, directly said it to Jack. He said that it was real, everything actually happened. Then,

Jack: Are we dead?
Christian: Everybody dies Jack. Some before you, some loooong after you.

In the church, yes, everyone is dead and waiting to pass on into the afterlife. Some of them died before Jack, some (like hurley) died long after. But everything we saw on the island did in fact happen.

As Christian Shephard said:
Jack: And everyone else, they're all dead too?
Christian: Everyone dies, Jack. Some before you, some long after you.
Jack: Are they all here now?
Christian: Well, there is no NOW here.

quote:

How did the man in black become smoke?

He was thrust into the light and was transformed by it. Pretty dick move by Jacob, already knowing he was giving him a fate worse than death.

quote:

What was that statue? I thought it was an egyptian goddess of fertility. (Tawaret) That's why when it was broken the women couldn't have babies.

The creators have come out and said that the Egyptians discovered the Island long ago, and they used it to greatly increase their power.

As for the babies, that was caused by the Incident, that we saw back in the Season 5 finale. The Island's energy went haywire which results in the death of pregnant women.

quote:

What were the pockets of Electromagnetism? Were they just part of the island and nothing more?

The origin of that great amount of electromagnetism is the Source. It was the purpose of DHARMA's mission to find it, but they failed.

quote:

After the light was restored, why didn't Jack heal?

Why would he?

quote:

(statement) Jack never said words to the water for Hugo.

He still passed it on. The words are just procedural.

quote:

Time travel on the island. WTF? Never explained.

Midiclorians

quote:

(statement) Whitmore actually had no role at all in anything.

I'm a bit disappointed with how they handled Widmore in the end. Really he should have been allied with MIB, only to realize in the end what releasing him from the Island would mean. I would have definitely changed up alot of Widmore's storyline in the final two seasons.

quote:

(statement) The show never looked back on those two that were buried alive. I was like WTF for a few episodes.

Well, Miles got the diamonds from them in the end, which I'm sure he was pretty excited about when he got back to shore.

quote:

The mechanism at the bottom of the Orchid, who built that for the time travel?

The Man in Black, which to be honest I think is kind of stupid.

quote:

(statement) The Dharmi Init. had no real role.

In the final season at least.

quote:

WTF on the Jughead? It just appeared. I know they said there was testing, but doesn't Jacob allow/reject people coming? Did it actually do anything positive?

Made sure the survivors came to the Island and put a ton of events into motion.

quote:

If that was Jacob's plans, why didn't he just do what Desmond and Jack did to the light and kill his brother?

Jacob couldn't do it, and neither could MIB. He couldn't take the cork out without being killed. Desmond was the only possible candidate.

quote:

If the island is real... Why were there dead people still on it? (Michael) Could they not move on? I believe this makes my theory more sound.

The Island is basically the gates of hell. If the Island sank and was destroyed, darkness would have consumed the Earth. It's not surprising then that spirits of the dead would hang out in a place like this.

Keep em coming.

the "purgatory" as you call it, is usually referred to as the "flash-sideways." Think of it sort of like an alternate-reality, one that doesnt exist in our reality. Also, you have to suspend any notion of linear time as you're used to it. Everyone in the flash-sideways is dead in our reality......if you toss out the concept of linear time

quote:

How did the man in black become smoke?

the mother was both Jacob and the MiB incarnate. She contained both the good and evil aspects of protecting the island. When she passed on her powers, she split her powers between the boys. The evil smokey part doesnt need a body, it can exist as a person, horse, rocking chair, or just smoke.

quote:

What was that statue? I thought it was an egyptian goddess of fertility

just a statue, it has very little to do with the story

quote:

What were the pockets of Electromagnetism?

magic...space and time magic

quote:

After the light was restored, why didn't Jack heal?

the island was done with him

quote:

Jack never said words to the water for Hugo.

thats how Jacob ran things - Jack didnt need to do things the exact same way

quote:

Time travel on the island. WTF? Never explained.

the island is magic.....space and time magic

quote:

Whitmore actually had no role at all in anything.

??? did you watch all the episodes

quote:

The show never looked back on those two that were buried alive

writer's discretion to sweep under the rug a couple of mistakes and poorly received character arcs

quote:

The mechanism at the bottom of the Orchid, who built that for the time travel?

the long long ago people. they put the wagon wheel there to mix the water and the light. Not sure if they truly understood how/what it would do, as they were simply trying to tap into the energy to get off the island.

quote:

The Dharmi Init. had no real role.

??? you sure you watched all the episodes

quote:

Did it actually do anything positive?

pretty sure it had a key role in the Incident.

quote:

why didn't he just do what Desmond and Jack did to the light and kill his brother?

mommy crazy made it so they couldnt harm each other - she clearly clearly stated this....you sure you watched the show?

quote:

A little communication could have helped a lot of situations.

no shite - 100% agree

quote:

Why were there dead people still on it? (Michael) Could they not move on?

the Island wasnt done with them

this will make it easier
