We also know why MIB can't get off the island... Oh wait, no we don't.

Yeah, in the very least this was the one answer I expected to be answered in this episode.

MIB can't get off the island because his mother shared the wine with Jacob and chanted some stuff, I guess. And because she had the well buried and the "others" killed.

I think that's my issue with where the story is headed as well - too much metaphor and allegorical stuff that feels kind of like a cop out.

I agree with this. I understand it's hard to put a nice bow on time travel, smoke monsters, people that don't age, and electromagnatism, but I'd much rather them make an X-files try at it rather than give me some symbolic light in a cave.

Just out of curiosity, what did some of you think was gonna be at the island's core? I mean, we've known for years it's a "magical" island. It can't be located on a map, can traverse time and space, and we saw it plop right into the ocean. News flash: all of that is pretty stupid when you REALLY think about it. It's entertaining as hell though. So now we see into the heart of the island and yall are disappointed because it's a light. Well what did yall expect? It would literally be impossible to have some badass, epic answer that everyone is in love with that isn't totally out there and crazy. Yeah it's a light, big deal. The whole island doesn't make sense, why should this either?

I had very high expectations for Aeb Aeterno and loved it. Some of its expectations, some of its just that it was kind of crappy.

And here's the main reason I was thinking Jacob and MIB were very much connected to the ancients who built the Statue/Temple:

So it seems like this means nothing now.

A lot of this is true. What did we really expect? But like I said, I never expected logical answers, just better ones than some of the ones given. And some things that really shouldn't just be left to speculation have been.

That still isn't the answer. There is a huge reason why he can't leave the Island, like end of the world scenario that has been implied.

people wanting to know about the statues would be disappointed with that episode as well. i can tell u the exact quotes that would show up after the episode.

"wow, a whole hour just to show that some people came to the island and built a statue! disappointing, i wanted to know why they built it"

he did

but it's not just the wine...jacob obviously has powers that should be explained, like bringing people to the island and healing people.

there's still a lot of stuff that will be answered.

who's to say they arent? this all likely took place before the building of the temple and statue,etc..

I just remember him touching Richard's shoulder. Don't remember him drinking the wine but he may have.

It'd be a pretty simple explanation that they wanted to show their might and power. Pretty much the reason everybody decides to build a 200 foot tall statue.

i think he could have left before he turned into the smoke monster... she just didn't want him to leave because she always loved him because he was special. now that he's the monster it could end the world if he leaves. maybe jacob is one with each of the people he touched, and since mib can't kill jacob he cant kill them
