he definitely did
there were tards here who were comparing the water that mib gave him to the win that jacob gave him.

That still isn't the answer. There is a huge reason why he can't leave the Island, like end of the world scenario that has been implied.
didnt she say something to the effect that the "light" was the heart of all life or something like that. I dont remember what was said. But if it was something to that effect, then when he pushed MIB into that, he absorbed what looks like most of that and if he gets off the island, thats it, it is gone...and its jacobs fault it is that way so thats why he is so adamant that he can not leave the island...idk, just spitballing, im pretty tired, i need to watch again tomorrow

i think that it answered a lot. Jacob becomes the protector of the island so he doesnt age. Jacob in his rage, actually turns the light into the darkness which he works so hard to keep under control for the next thousands of years. i think thats cool

Just out of curiosity, what did some of you think was gonna be at the island's core? I mean, we've known for years it's a "magical" island. It can't be located on a map, can traverse time and space, and we saw it plop right into the ocean. News flash: all of that is pretty stupid when you REALLY think about it. It's entertaining as hell though. So now we see into the heart of the island and yall are disappointed because it's a light. Well what did yall expect? It would literally be impossible to have some badass, epic answer that everyone is in love with that isn't totally out there and crazy. Yeah it's a light, big deal. The whole island doesn't make sense, why should this either?
i guess i've always been one who were pissed at fans who wanted answers spoon fed but i thought we were due a couple.
"the island is a battleground for humanity, jacob, and the light is what mortal souls crave most....... immortality, omniscience, God's love, tits and beer, whatever the frick!!"
"oh and your brother can't leave the island because the world will end. so you have to keep him here."
even that would have been enough for me, instead the point of the show is that mib wants to leave the island because his mother said he couldn't and he's just trying to prove her wrong.
the beach scene in season 5 was the absolute perfect setup to make this something about the goodness of humanity but all i feel it is after watching this episode was a pissing contest btwn MIB and jacob/mom.

i like the theory that MIB absorbed the light. this would be why Jacob didn't want to kill MIB, only MIB wanted to kill Jacob. Someone has to keep MIB on the island, but they can't kill him or there will be no more light and the light is what keeps the world going. i think the light = souls. which would explain the dead people being on the island

people wanting to know about the statues would be disappointed with that episode as well. i can tell u the exact quotes that would show up after the episode.
"wow, a whole hour just to show that some people came to the island and built a statue! disappointing, i wanted to know why they built it"
And therein lies the problem. The writers got too ambitious with the story and wrote themselves into a corner. They threw in all these "mysteries" of the island, which is what made the show so interesting for most, without a real idea of where it was going.
And to be honest with you, I actually enjoy LOST for the character development and their journey and not the "mysteries". I just wish they hadn't forced themselves to have to satisfyingly answer all these questions.

I usually like to post some thoughts about the episdoe, bounce some ideas and call the rest of you idiots.........but I am so underwhelmed right now, I may just wait till tomorrow
Damn fellas, you've had years to come up with a genesis, and that's the best idea you two could come up with?
To the poster I berrated earlier in the season for suggesting aliens: my sincere heartfelt apology. Your alien theory would have been much better than the wine and cheese party we watched tonite

If the potion is needed to pass on the responsibility to watch the island then why did Jacob give the bottle to MIB in the Richard centric episode?
I thought about this episode and was thinking that the potion being spilled into the soil. Maybe this could explain the temple pool that heals? Maybe it was built near where this happened and the potion contaminated the water?

By the way, along with how did she make them immortal and why is he stuck on the island, I want to know how exactly did she kill everyone and bury the well in such a short time.
Who finished the wheel? Who made the lighthouse? Who taught Jacob how to do anything?
I see more questions than answers. And not telling us MIB's name was pretty annoying. Especially since he always used Jacob's name.
I am wondering if his name is actually Brother.
Ohhhhhh.....ties into Desmond saying Brother 444 times an episode.

I've known about adam & eve for a couple weeks, but missed the spoiler where they said Across the Sea was scripted out on a bev nap in 20min because it was their turn to drop the kids off at soccer practice

MIB doesn't have a name! that is the point. the mother only had 1 name. how hard is that to comprehend?
MIB. he isn't stuck in smoke form. he had all the time in the world to make another wheel to try and escape, i wouldn't bet against us seeing it. maybe the wheel doesn't work for him because he is the light, and the light disappears when he is out and about

This episode was a HUGE disappointment. Didn't really explain a lot and the explanation they did give were very weak.

This thread is funny and it perfectly illustrates what Mother said at the beginning of the episode..."any question I answer will only lead to more questions." Anyone expecting any kind of detailed explanation for what "the light is" or why it needs protecting are only setting themselves up for disappointment. The light can be anything you want it to be...God, Goodness, life, peace...whatever...it doesn't matter. It's something bigger than us.
This is a work of fiction. A fabulous piece of fiction/fantasy, with symbolism out the wazoo. As with any piece of fiction worth its salt, it should be open to interpretation. The symbolism and the emotions evoked from the show are why I watch it. I couldn't care less about what the light is or why it needs protecting. It's about watching people lie and people getting deceived. It's about human failure and human success. It's about faith versus reason. It's about whether people should act on faith or question it and hesitate. It's about good and evil. It's about fate vs. free will. It's about love. Why do we really need to know about the fricking statue? It's meaningless in comparison to the interactions between the characters and the deeper philosophical issues this show brings up.
Having said all that, I'm sure you've all guessed by now...I liked the episode and it went about like I expected. This was going to be about Jacob/MIB and Mother. And for those that say they don't think MIB is all that bad...you are right, he wasn't...
This whole time, through all 6 seasons, one of the biggest issues that Lost has presented is whether it is reasonable to act on faith without questioning or should one question what one is told. This has been one of the most fascinating aspects of Lost to me. For Christians and people of other religions, this is a very pertinent question. Interestingly, LOST has come down on both sides of the issue. With Locke, his actions and "faith" got him manipulated and dead. With Jack, it seems that his faith is going to put him on the "good" side. I guess we'll have to wait and see.
Like any good philosophical question, there is no right answer. So to expect the LOST writers to answer questions they can't, is asking too much. I'm sure there are plenty of holes in my little diatribe that won't satisfy any of you, just as there are in LOST. Oh well... I still love the show and you will be disappointed. Now which one of us is stupid?

yeah i'm ok with MIB not having a name or not having his name revealed.
i'm also ok not knowing who made the donkey wheel or the statue.
i wanted more answers about the light/island, i wanted the roles of MIB and jacob to be better defined than "i wanna leave/no you can't cuz mama said so"
