There's not a ton of skating movies out there but this has to be up there as the GOAT skateboard movie. Heath Ledger is fantastic in it as well

I enjoyed watching it, but can't rank it over the documentary that featured the real guys. The only way I could see myself liking it over the documentary would be if I saw Lords of Dogtown first. In my mind the Dog Town and Z Boys documentary does circles around it, but I'm glad that story reached a wider audience.

Wish that story had reached the small Louisiana and Mississippi towns where I grew up, while it was happening. I never saw a board that didn't have metal wheels until I was in my twenties. Was really too old to take the falls learning to ride one would surely include.

The documentary it's based on is even better. I actually just got it in from Amazon last week.

Compared to the documentary, I thought that the movie was a major letdown. Some of the casting was great(Jay Adams, Skip Engblom). Some of it was terrible(Tony Alva).

But they failed to capture the magic of that era that the documentary nailed.

The film/documentary are a great pair of watches. Great soundtrack from the film (same songs as the doc, pretty much). After seeing the doc and then Ledger’s portrayal of Engblom I realized he was a mega-talent actor.

LoDT featured a ton of unknowns that went on to bigger things...

Sofia Vergara as Amelia (Chino's chick) seen here with Heath Ledger losing himself in the role of Skip Engblom.

America Ferrera as Thunder Monkey

Shea Whigham and Jeremy Renner as Jay's coke-head managers.

Pablo Schreiber as Stecyk.

I forgot that Mitch Hedberg shows up to sell them wheels.

Joel McHale is on for a split second as a reporter.

Eden Hensen of The Mighty Ducks is Skip's sidekick.

If you blink you miss Charles Napier as famous tailor Nudie Cohn.
