It's hilarious how many of y'all think this will fail.
The show is going to be a big success. Whether its a success in the eyes of some die hard Tolkien fans doesn't matter. It's going to make a lot of money and a arse ton of people are going to watch it. To a normal person and a studio, that's a success.

I wish that the slat-eyed, swarthy southerner at Bree wasn't half orc. I wish that Tolkien didn't frequently refer to orcs as having dark skin. I wish that Tolkien didn't differentiate between High, Middle, and Low men based on their race.
Why? There's absolutely nothing controversial about any of it.

It's lunacy to notice those things and immediately think of racism. And again, for those that see racism in Tolkien's work, it says more about them than it does Tolkien.

It says just as much about you that you don’t.

You keep saying this, but there’s like a very small contingent of you on this board bitching about it in all the threads. You’re a very small crowd. Loud, sure, but very small. Not in any way representative of the culture at large.
Y’all may bitch about it all the way, but the show is getting 5 seasons and it will be very successful.
It’s going to be successful in the same ways Star Wars, DC, and Marvel Phase 4+ are. It’s not going to be huge save for the shite talking memes.

No one will be talking about this show after the last episode.
I can tell by the way you are fanboying for this you have no idea what you are talking about or the fact they had to stop filming in New Zealand and fly to England to rebuild the entire massive studio is alone a major loss for Amazon.
That is money being spent they didn’t plan initially.

Again, just because you don't watch something or people on tigerdroppings thinks something sucks, doesn't mean you're not delusional.
The Star Wars movie you boycotted made a billion, Dr Strange just made 950,000,000. Spiderman a gazillion dollars. The Batman made 760,000,000 million.
I might not like the show, but if the numbers are high, it'll be pretty easy for me to realize it was a hit. You on the other hand, will ignore the numbers and ratings because, you know, the memes. Maybe your cosplay buddies or theonering folks might think funny memes equals failure doesn't mean the general public does.

Homecoming made almost 2 billion dollars. Dr. Strange is about to cross 1 billion dollars.
Disney+ became the fastest growing streaming service off the back of Marvel and Star Wars shows.
In what world is that a failure?
I might not think all of what they have produced is quality(and in the case of Star Wars, most of it is junk, though I also dont hold the OT in the sort of high regard it's fans does either), but they have made a shite ton of money.

Yes, because saying in every thread that I didn't even want the show to be made or that I won't watch it if it screws up the source definitely means I'm a fanboy
I'm not a fanboy, I just live in reality and am not one of OM's little minions like some of y'all are.

Yep, first time in history this has ever happened.

Solo only made like 300 million.

There seems to be this disconnect where a not insignificant amount of people cannot process that the bubble they live in is not always accurately reflecting the rest of reality and society. And even when the facts are put in front of their face they continue to deny it or try and rationalize it away by, you guessed it, retreating into that bubble and trying to pull something out from it that they think can supersede the reality they don't like.
That film they hate made a billion? Well, yeah, but how do you explain all the memes on right-wing culture war social media?? See, it was a disaster!

quote:That's about Nerd of the Rings guy... I don't think he's a shill. I think he truly loves the Tolkien stuff, in any and all media. If you follow his channel, his deeper dives into various characters and places are great.
Tell us you're a paid shill without saying you're a paid shill.
And while he is hopeful of the series, his "very specific concerns" have been on a lot of things that worried fans. Meteor Man, presence of the Harfoots, having both Durins alive at the same time. Last night he reviewed that newest trailer and had some concerns about how Finrod died.
The dude digs into Tolkien lore at a deeper level than I do... he's found several letters mentioning "sea dragons", for example.

That's not unreasonable.
If the show sucks, the numbers will drop significantly. Just like any show. But this is LOTR, not Wheel of Time. WoT doesn't have the fanbase LOTR has and this has the benefit of having the same title as the three most successful fantasy movies of all time and I'm sorry but the production is just on another level.
I said this in a different thread, I'm in a random LOTR facebook group with probably 20k followers. If you're in a LOTR facebook group, odds are you are a more of a LOTR fan than the average person. I click on the group from time to time and everytime I do, it's people talking about how excited they are for this show. People want a LOTR fix, and this is going to give it to them.
If you go into this as an average fan, not knowing the source material or caring about a show doing it perfect justice (like most everybody that is going to watch it), this could be a very good show. You're watching a show about a subject that you like and is interesting to you and you're not looking for a reason to complain.
The initial success of House of the Dragon tells me more about how well this will do that Wheel of Time does. House of the Dragon followed a series that left a horrible taste in the majority of the viewers mouth and set HBO records. Ring of Power is following three movies that have ledt people dying for more for years and years. It has a lot going for it regardless of the race of some dwarves and elves.

Yeah....About that

The Walt Disney Company reported on Wednesday that total Disney+ subscriptions rose to 152.1 million during the company’s third quarter, posting better-than-expected results. The streaming service added 14.4 million subscribers in the quarter, beating expectations of 10 million.

They aren't, but again, this is that facts-be-damned rationalization process I just spoke about. Where it seems some can't wrap their minds around the fact the world does not reflect your own personal cultural grievances and those shared within your bubble.
Disney+ continues to add subscribers at a very respectable clip, has had explosive growth since launching 3 years ago, and is now only behind Amazon Prime(oh the wokeness!) and Netflix, which has been losing customers.

It's not, The just released Disney Earnings Report said 3rd quarter Disney+ subscriptions far exceeded growth expectations.
They optimistically forecasted 10 million new subscribers for the quarter but actually ended up adding nearly 15 million new subscribers.
