Why would you so strongly defend this garbage? Seriously.

I’m going to watch it before I declare it garbage like any sane person would.

Elendil says the following:

quote:

The past is dead. We either move forward, or we die with it.

It’s garbage. It’s a direct insult to the fans.

Maybe I just have a different perspective, but I don't see the calamity in this line.

First, have you seen the Last Jedi? That’s the line almost verbatim.

Secondly, Elendil of all fricking characters saying that?

quote:

Second and more likely, could be after the destruction of Numenor, when their entire country has just been destroyed literally by the hand of God. Isildur could be ready to lay down and die on the beach, saying all is lost. Elendil has to push him to keep moving.

We know they founded Arnor and Gondor afterwards. That is moving forward.

Nah, because this is seasons down the line. I’m betting the destruction of Numenor is the plan of the end of Season 3.

You mean like any clapping seal who has zero knowledge about Tolkien, never read the books but might have seen the movies, once, and now has decided that this is the next cool thing so might as well jump on board ?

You do you.

I can already tell it’s a massive bait and switch pile of trash.

I’m going to choose to like it, if for no other reason than to annoy the unhinged Tolkien disciples…

So….. Should I be as mad or madder about this over how mad I was with the Hobbit trilogy?

Oh this is going to be so bad you’re going to have a newly found appreciation for the Hobbit trilogy like most of us did for the Star Wars prequels. Seriously, everyone is going to be saying “Well at least they got Bilbo meeting Smaug and Riddles in the Dark right.”

Same goes for the silly 'I've seen things you have not seen ' back and forth between Galadriel and Elrond. It's low rent fanfic dialogue like that which only cheapens this treatment of Tolkien.

And Galadriel wouldn’t do that to Elrond either. Galadriel honestly had a pretty privileged life compared to Elrond by the Second Age even if she was much older.

I’ve read the Hobbit, LOTR, and half of the Silmarillian. I’m working on it. I love Middle Earth.

You (and OM to a slightly lesser degree) have been shouting like a lunatic throughout this entire thread demanding nothing less than a perfect (in your view) adaptation of something Tolkien never even fleshed out, all the while mocking and insulting people who are simply content to give it a chance before they write it off. Can you not understand how miserable that is?

So, yeah, I’ll do me and you can do you. I promise I’ll be in a better mood at the end of the day.

TL;DR: You’re a miserable gatekeeping c_nt, and you’re making a fool out of yourself.

To be honest, from the very beginning when I even heard of the concept of this series, I was against it since I found an adaptation of the Second Age and condensing it into a single generation to be completely blasphemous to the text. There were 25 Númenórean kings and Númenóreans lived five times the average lifespan of men. That’s a long fricking time, and if you had to condense 2,000 years into 20, then you probably should have said “no” to adapting it. It’s clearly about the money, but they’re going to frick that up too in the mistake of thinking Twitter is the real world.

Gatekeeping isn’t always bad. There are things worth protecting. To millions of people worldwide, after their religious books like the Bible or Quran, this is the most precious novel ever written. This isn’t like Harry Potter where people simply find it cool and a good story. Tolkien’s world is very meticulous and detailed and any major distortion of it is quite frankly blasphemous to millions of us. It’s not a universe where you simply shrug it off. We all know what Tolkien was going for and any assault on the material is not tolerated by this base.

I appreciate that you seem a lot less ANGRY and a lot more just put out with it. I respect your POV, and you’ll probably end up being right. We shall see.

Spoken like one who probably loves The Rise of Skywalker.

I will speak for myself and not anyone else, but when I give a criticism of why I don’t like this garbage from Amazon, nobody ever comes back with a coherent response. If you claim that “there can too be black elves hobbits and dwarves” then you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about and any discussion is pointless.

If you want to be oblivious of events being cobbled together which took place thousands of years apart and don’t see a problem with that, then you’re not really a token fan are you? You’re just somebody who likes middle - earthy things wants to see dragons and swords and stuff.

From dismissing Tom Shippey , hiring a bunch of talentless hacks whose main focus is promoting inter-sectionalism & queer theory themes and releasing a series on the anniversary of Tolkien’s death (that wasn’t a mistake), there is a long long long laundry list of things to despise about this series.

Not so much. I loved The Last Jedi, though, so I definitely belong on your list, which is fine. I like what I like.

ETA: I don’t have a problem with you hating the ROP series without having ever watched it. My only problem is that you’re being an insufferable, condescending a-hole about it.

How? Because knowing the source material & seeing this isn’t Tolkien? Or that I’m accused of being racist for literally no reason? Only because some mouth breathers who don’t know the story think it’s fine there’s hood elves because of diversity or equity nonsense?

That ain’t Tolkien & I’m not backing down on any of it.

They’ve already told us they aren’t taking the source material serious. You’re a cuck that is on their side.

No you don’t. You love putting your propaganda into a story and changing the source material.

You people are so mentally ill you can’t understand how miserable someone has to be to change the source material just to justify their own real world propaganda.

Didn't even OM say black elves weren't an issue/could be possible? I could be wrong. Good luck with a "you don't know what the hell you're talking about" with him. He practically has The Silmarillion memorized.

I mean, it’s possible. The Elves aren’t all accounted for unlike the Hobbits and Dwarves. Likely, no, but if there are black men in Tolkien’s universe (which there are) I don’t see explicitly why there isn’t a possibility that there are black elves, although they certainly weren’t in the Undying Lands by the time of the destruction of the Two Trees.
