Yeah I truly dont get it.
Just like I dont get the people that have been in show threads from morning to midnight complaining and whining.
I love The Witcher, novels and games. The show really has disappointed me. But I don't make it a mission in life to be miserable about it 24/7 and troll the people that like it. I just...dont watch it lol

Really?
I think the show has been incredible. At least season 1 was. Season 2 was pretty good too.

Reviews are pretty worthless these days, and yes, that includes the super negative ones.
I'm going to give it a chance (via piracy of course) either way, but I' not hopeful, given the statements of the actors and producers, not to mention the fact that this show is being created de facto by Bad Robot.

What a commentary on our society that we hate watch to such a degree.
the only time i've ever hate watched was the finale of GoT and the last 4 episodes of WoT.
WoT was just because my wife watched it even though i told her they were butchering things.

And hey, a lot of people say the same.
Personally I think it was a lot of missed potential and the changes they have made are a bit perplexing. I think the writing has trended from so so to outright bad at times.
It's not bad overall per se, it's watchable, but thats not really enough for me with so much out there. And I can't help but think if a place like HBO could have done with the property and if they could have done a bit better job in getting better surrounding talent for Cavill, who I do think is perfect in the role.

Consequence of TV just dropped their review (just to add):
Gave it a B+

Fans of J.R.R. Tolkien and/or Peter Jackson, get ready for something very different — and yet also very familiar. It’s hard to sum up everything that’s going on in the new Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. But the first two episodes of the series, which premiere together this Friday, offer a deliberately paced but increasingly intriguing take on Tolkien’s world.
quote:
In case you don’t want to read Austin Gilkeson’s excellent and detailed explanation of what Tolkien works serve as source material for The Rings of Power, here’s the short version: All of the officially published books are off limits, but the show’s writers are able to explore Tolkien’s additional writings on the Second Age, set thousands of years before the Third Age (when The Hobbit and the original LOTR books take place) and relatively unexplored in Tolkien’s work, compared to other Middle-earth eras.
However much this was driven by contracts and legalese, this has created a combination of strict limits but also a lot of potential freedom for where the story can go — which actually gives the show a major advantage, creatively.

The showrunners and "stars" of the series did nothing but throw gasoline on the criticism.
They label critics from the outset, and the narrative is set.
When one of the characters spews the same pathetic message about why the show was going to be great (had nothing to do with great writing or acting, but representation), you open yourself up to the criticism.
To pretend the negative commentary about this show isn't inspired significantly by the absurd posturing is dishonest.

Nerd of the Rings just released his review of ep 1 and 2. He's pretty lukewarm, but hopeful.
He is one of the access guys, however, so grain of salt, I guess.

Yep if there’s a movie or show I’m anticipating the I’m not going to rely on either review sources, critic scores can differ greatly from the GA, while GA scores run the risk of being review bombed.
I remember before House of the Dragon came out there were many here saying it would suck even bringing up shitty clickbait articles to confirm their own bias. Now it’s get a shite ton of love and blasting viewership records for HBO

I'm going to watch a few episodes before deciding if the show is good or not but everything prior to these reviews, and now these reviews included. do not give me a good impression. I'm still going in cautiously optimistic but if it's anything close to how Amazon butchered of the Wheel of Time I'll be out quick.

This is what gives me pause. I don't want a "take on Tolkien's world." I want Tolkien's world.

I see this brought up a lot, but it's worth noting that people on that series have basically stated that the WoT suffered greatly cause all the money and talent was being funneled to LOTR and WoT became a red headed stepchild for Amazon essentially.

They will go to their fricking graves without ever admitting fault.

Nah that was just a terrible series. Putting botching source material aside, it was just not good at all. That was still a really expensive show and you could be watching it and think "where the hell did all the money go?" Money was being spent on LOTR but they certainly had a big enough budget to make a quality show.

TBC I never watched WoT, it looked terrible and the reviews and impressions only confirmed that.
Only point in that response was to explain why WoT and Rings of Power are pretty different in terms of their production pipeline.

There is no way this is true. They didn't make such major changes to the WOT story because Rings of Power got the money. If the only issue with WOT was visuals that would be one thing but that wasn't the issue. The issue was the unnecessary changes to the source material.

The article I saw was less about visuals and just the overall talent on the show and how LOTR sort of sucked up and got priority at the expense of some of these productions like WoT
Like I said, I never watched it, it looked bad and apparently was. If they botched the source material I can't really speak to that. Just that from a production standpoint, I don't think it's going to be a mess like WoT. Now whether the story is any good? We'll have to see.
Personally Jackson's Rings weren't perfect adaptations either, and considering this is basically making a story out of lore and timeline stuff, I am not sure how you make five seasons without adding new elements, which this reportedly will do.
