I think a big part of it was the way they reacted to people's reaction. Especially Rian Johnson. He showed such contempt for the fans of the franchise he'd been handed to go with the contempt he showed for the source material. The tone was so condescending like we were are stupid, immature, or evil for not liking that shite pile. I maybe could abide a mistake in one movie, but the obstinate defiance that we the fans were wrong for not liking it was just too much.

FWIW I enjoyed Solo a lot. Flawed movie but fun heist film.

Wooda been nice had Forbes subtracted the $4B paid for the SW franchise from its fluff piece. Then compare those totals to other franchises

Disney knows they have left well over $1B on the table just in merch and tix, since the Ep8 debacle. They risk losing even more if Star Wars land focuses on these new characters. It would be like a theme park building a new section based off the female Ghostbusters cast. The potential for disaster is monumental at this point

Judging off of the information known thus far, Galaxy’s Edge won’t focus on the new characters. The planet it’s modeled after, Batuu, is a remote outpost and den for outlaws/smugglers. Batuu is to be featured prominently in the upcoming Zahn novel, Thrawn: Alliances.

They've already ruined all the old characters, so I say just go forward with a new cast as soon as possible. You fricked it up, and there's no use crying over spilt milk. They could correct this by getting an Abrams cut of TLJ, since there is a lot you can work with and then just bring back Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, and Andy Serkis to reshoot a bunch of crap. But if they're not going to do this, then follow their own shitty advice: Let the Past Die.

This could potentially even be worse. Walking around not sensing a familiarity with what you've seen on the big screen. Who would endure the heat and long lines for that?

He means they might rethink their decision to sink quite as much onto their forthcoming huge Star Wars section of it.

Not a chance. Construction has been going on for over a year now. It would be way more expensive to redesign than to finish what they've already started.

100% this. Rian Johnson doesn't have the credentials to back that kind of arrogance up. The guy made one movie that was just OK. That's it. His imdb page has 3 movies listed and Looper is the only one people have heard of.

So this no name arse-clown put out a horrendous movie. Not even bad because of star wars. The movie itself suffers from countless errors in writing, pacing, directing, acting, plot outlines, subplots, coherence, narrative, protagonists, climax, etc...

Further, it's not some random stand alone film. It's the second movie in a trilogy that simultaneously erases everything from the first movie and leaves no where for the third movie to go.

You take all of that terrible mess and add in the horrible way he treated the Star Wars universe and you get the absolute destruction of the fan base and the IP.

Then the studio and Rian Johnson doubled down by going on a press tour, including comiccon, and attacking the fanbase and belittling the critics.

It's monumentally and impressively stupid. It should be studied in film school in almost every aspect.

Unlike TLJ, I’m sure Galaxy’s Edge will feel like the Galaxy far, far away. Thrawn is a very popular character with the animated fans and I could see him working well on the big screen. Perhaps Batuu will be featured in Ep IX?

They certainly have a lot riding on it, looking at the Solo box office. It will absolutely kill their theme park makeover in Florida, if they don't
Nothing, and I do mean nothing will kill Galaxies Edge.

The opening for Pandora had huge crowds. Galaxies Edge will be even bigger, and will stay packed even during off-season for years.

Millions of people. You should probably look at what they have in store for it.

The immersive nature of the interaction with the guests inside Galaxies Edge that have been promoted are VERY attractive to Star Wars fans.

But the fact a bunch of angry fans boycotted the Star Wars film headlined by a white dude and had the most conservative, throwback story of the new films was just an insanely poor strategy.
Why? It was the next one.

I'm boycotting 9, too.

I was excited after 7.

8 was so bad, I just don't care how it ends.

There are a bunch like me, as SOLO just found out.

Mine are as fair as they come.

8 was garbage. It only made so much, because 7 was pretty good.

Only episode 8 could make the next SW movie tank.

Of course they say that.

I'd wager Vox, HuffPo, and MSNBC would all agree with that assessment.

So movies are NOT supposed to appeal to their fans?

WTF is going on in Hollywood? I thought they liked money.

"Toxic fandom" like Trekkies is what kept this franchise alive.

That's the problem with the new Star Wars franchise, they are acting like they're new. You're not new. You have a massive existing fanbase. You copied A New Hope and acted like it was new. You wouldn't be making half this money without the Toxic fandom - because frankly the movies aren't that good and TLJ sucks regardless of any complaints by magazines regarding SJW stuff.

Every article is a cop-out...I've never seen a movie franchise blame BO #s on people's personal preference and taste...like it's a bad thing. We all should see this movie regardless if we want to - otherwise we are bad people. What a joke.

I'm tired of these articles. Star Wars needs to re-evaluate itself and stop going on Internet crusades about us bad people who don't like TLJ.

This type of interaction only worked for the Harry Potter themed lands @ Universal b/c JK was a stickler for authenticity, in design as well as cast interactions. Employees are had to pass tests and countless trainingsto develop the ‘character’ needed and most importantly are paid extra.

Disney will have a hard time motivating college program interns to sustain this level of ‘immersion’

Plus the whole ‘fully immersive’ hotel they’re building sounds cool and all until they run out of role playing nerds who mortgage their parent’s basements to cover the $800+ per night for a room.

It’s gonna be constant complaining and backlash: rich people only staying for the novelty complain about the hoards is freeloading berds wandering the hotel, and the Poors complaining once the hotel is for ‘guests only’
