just watch the theatrical release first. if you like it, watch Redux. it's a great movie, but it's not for everyone, so you if you dont like the theatrical you are unlikely to change your mind with Redux.

This. And whether you like it or not, definitely read up on the making of this movie. It was a huge clusterfrick. Was basically the basis of the movie Tropic Thunder

I'm in the minority here but I believe Redux is the far superior version. The theatrical cut removes some scenes that don't advance the plot overly much, but they do contribute heavily to the message the movie is trying to send. The Redux version works far better as a work of art.

One does not simply look to watch Apocalypse Now.

I watched Apocalypse Now on HBO when I was like 8. Circa 1981. One of my all time favorite movies.

Apocalypse Now is one of my favorite movies all time. The Redux version is my favorite but I agree with the person who says try the theatrical version first and see how you like it and if you do you may want to then explore the expanded releases

Better still, after watching the film, follow it up with this

Theatrical Cut is the only answer for a first timer.

Might have been a clusterfrick but the finished product is the best thing ever put to film in my opinion
