I have AT&T Uverse, and with no warning my bill jumped up by over $60.

I called their customer support, and the first guy couldn't help me.

When I told him that I will be looking for other options, he sent me to their "Customer Loyalty" department. The best they could do was $20 off my bill. Even dropping down a tier in cable service, the bill was ridiculously high.

I told her that if they can't bring my bill lower, I was cancelling my service.

She sent me to a manager. The manager seemed completely disinterested in helping me. Her attitude was basically "You're leaving? Oh well. Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out."

I would have rather stayed with ATT, because I like the channel line up they give me, and having to find a new provider is kind of a pain in the arse. I had left Cox years ago because of this constant fight over ridiculous bill increases.

Right now, I'm looking at YouTubeTV. But I'd have to find a separate internet provider. The wife suggested looking into Verizon internet, since her phone plan is through them (my phone is through my work).

I know there's been a ton of these threads in the past. I'm just fricking aggravated right now with my bill, and I'm venting at you people.

i think you'd be better served on the tech board. there's a cord cutting thread.

if you drop your cable, do you have to lose your internet as well? is that set in stone? or are you just worried they'll jack your internet rates up even more for dropping cable?

I had UVerse for several years and they would just match the YouTube TV plus standalone internet price in the past so it wasn’t worth changing.

Classic six of one, half a dozen of the other scenario.

They have clearly changed this strategy in the past few months.

I switched to YouTube TV and kept my internet with AT&T. I also get HBO through my internet deal with them.

YouTube TV is pretty damn good. My only complaint is that it can buffer when fast forwarding sports and that I can’t causally pause games like I did with cable because it will go to the screensaver very quickly (maybe 10 minutes) and then not let me pick up from where I left off.

Therefore I have to set up games to record more often (but there is essentially unlimited recording space).

Ive tried youtube TV and at first I liked it but Ive got internet with Comcast. Once youtube went up on their price, I did the math and found that with my youtube subscription combined with my Comcast internet, I was paying the same price as I initially paid with cable and internet with Comcast

My renewal for Comcast cable came due this past summer and the price went up. I looked at smaller packages and found that even if I subscribed to their lowest priced package, I could pick up the tv channels they offered on my antenna. I decided to cut the cable out (still use Comcast internet), use an antenna and I stream Prime and Netflix. So far I am happy with the decision.

Apparently, I get a bundle discount on my internet since I have Uverse. But if I'm leaving ATT, I'm taking all my business elsewhere. Their customer service is shite, and they treat their customers horribly.

I just looked over my bill again, and these motherfrickers are charging me $25 a month for HBO Max, when its only $15 to sign up through HBO. Plus Max used to be free through ATT.

this is meant with no offense to you, because you don't know what you don't know. unless coax cable with a cable box is your only option, i am shocked that anybody is still paying the upcharge for HBO through a provider and hasn't figured out that it's cheaper and easier to just go to the source.

i didn't answer this in my OP,

but we use

sling $37
hulu/d+/espn $15
pluto
OTA antenna for fox/nbc/cbs/abc sports.

it's not optimal or amazing but it's the cheapest option to get the most sports and channels per month. we have netflix, prime, and hbo too but i'm not leaning on those as cable replacements. i could drop D+ or prime tomorrow and not bat an eye despite liking a lot of the shows.

I dropped Suddenlink to go cordless with Hulu Live. The Pelicans stopped being aired on Fox Sport N.O. so I switched to DirectTV Stream (I liked Hulu much better). Now DTVS and Fox have been in a money dispute since before the world series, so I am dropping them. It's unreal how long their money dispute has went on. Screw them. Now I'm with YouTube Live and like it much better.

So in the past 2 1/2 years, I've had cable, Hulu Live, DirectTV Stream and YouTube Live.

YouTube Live is my favorite so far. With their on demand shows, you can fast forward commercials. Even with Hulu Live no commercials, you still get commercials on all the on demand stuff. I called them about the no commercial thing because it was driving me crazy still having them, and she basically said it's just an advertising thing, only a few stations, and none of the main ones, are commercial free.

1. YouTube TV
2. Hulu Live
3. Cable
4. DirectTV Stream
5. Sling

I haven’t heard of HBO Max being offered to anyone at more than $15/month from a cable or internet provider (except for the post in this thread).

$15 is the HBO ad-free charge, as far as I know.

Ok, so I have an update to this.

I went on facebook and messaged AT&T directly. I told them what happened, and 10 minutes later, they knocked $70 off my bill.

I don't know why none of the other customer service reps, including the manager, were able to help me.

I'll probably still move away from AT&T because having to fight them once a year is annoying, but at least I have some breathing room now.

I'd say YoutubeTV and Hulu Live are just about equal and competitive with each other.

We currently use Youtube TV and I'm very satisfied with the channels and performance. Though I'm probably going to cancel it because almost all of our TV is watched on Netflix, Hulu ($2/month Black Friday deal), and Disney+ (shared account).

If ESPN offered their flagship channels as a standalone package, I'd drop Youtube TV in a heartbeat.

Sling is a budget option, especially if you opt for only one of their packages. Both packages together isn't much cheaper than Youtube/Hulu and you don't have local channels included.

This was helpful as I am in the process of doing the same. I have Xfinity and like the service it was just going to go $206 from $190. This is for cable and internet. I wasnt even using the box I was just using their stream and I knew I was way overpaying. Called yesterday and kept the internet, well I dropped down to the 400, and its about $85 a month after all the crap. Now I just need to pick a service. I do like to have the ability to watch the Astros here in Houston and thats on ATTSportsnet and only Fubo and Directv stream carry it as far as I can tell. I am thinking I rather just pay a cheaper price for a better service like Hulu live or Youtube tv and stream games another way.

When I first cut the chord and went to YouTube TV it was around $35/month. Now it's $65/month, and we hardly watch it outside of college sports. I'm looking for ways to just stream ESPN/CBS/ABC so we can watch college sports

I am hoping that ESPN does a stand-alone streaming service of ESPN/2/U/SEC/ACC/News one day. That would leave ABC/CBS/Fox/NBC of course but simplify things.
