just rewatched this movie for the first time in probably 30 years, man has it held up over time.
the soundtrack is great, the idea is a novelty, and the acting is wunderbar. i just didnt appreciate it enough as a kid.
RIP kirstie alley.

I remember my friends parents taking me to see this and I had no idea what was going on right when it started.

Could be lunch meat, could be peaches. The point is this: just because it’s free don’t mean it’s no good.

Loved it as a kid. It was a very unique, amusing concept. Def a little corny but it's a comedy not Shakespeare and everyone I knew loved it, guess that's how it spawned a franchise.
I love how casually un-PC it is too. Tons of jokes and lines that would never fly today. Especially since it was somewhat marketed to families. Feels like that's how a ton of 80s movies are in general, lotta low key risque jokes that mostly went over the kids head.
I can ensure you I had no idea wtf was happening during the sperm scene, or what article insemination was, or what a lesbo was. I got the big boobs/lunch joke though.

Yeah I caught this one several years ago and it still holds up really well. I'm pretty sure my mom and I saw this in theaters back in the day.
The sequel is pretty good as well.
Don't think I've seen the third one (Look Who's Talking Now, I think?).

Pulp Fiction was the film that gave Travolta his leading man status back, but people always talk about it like he hadn't been in a successful film since Urban Cowboy. LWT made $297 million (!) worldwide against only a $7.5 million budget. Adjusted for inflation that's a little north of $750 million. From what I recall, it did extremely well in VHS rentals as well. Just a massively successful film, especially considering it sort of came out of nowhere.
And not to beat a dead horse and lament too much on the current state of the industry, but it's a bummer that films like this just don't get made much anymore and when they do they virtually have no chance of bringing in any type of box office. At most they go to a streaming site and come and go. The days of a quirky, offbeat comedy with a fun, interesting premise taking off and becoming a monster hit have long been gone.

Sometimes I wonder if that, at least partially, kicked off some of the PC focus... the idea that kids WERE getting a lot of jokes, thereby making them inappropriate.
Whether or not they actually are, I have no idea - a lot of these most assuredly went over my head when I was a kid.

That's because everybody was renting it to slow-mo to see the "ghost kid" hiding behind the curtains.

I had the same experience. Older brother had to explain it to me.
