I think my favorite part of that quote was his implication that the racist people did not actually know they were racist. Apparently, in his (and many other people's) world, racism is built into white men and it is there even when they think it isn't, and is the true cause of any and all things that don't work out in pick-your-minority's favor.

Levar Burton has become (or always was) such an insufferable douche.

As far as I know, this is the first he has ever brought this up. (Though, if anyone knows anything to the contrary, I’d like to know.)

This comes off more like a) he didn’t get the jeopardy job, b) he still hasn’t appeared in Picard (yet), c) he’s well passed his celebrity prime but too young to coast on the money he has banked so far, so he’s doing this to make Geordi out to be some sort of marginalized character that is owed some sort of correction by Paramount. It’s a way of saying “If Paramount doesn’t have me back, they are just further marginalizing this character for race.”

There's nothing amazing about it, his comments were dumb as shite. If the lack of an on-screen love interest was a problem for him, what did he do about it at the time? Oh, nothing, ok. Years later, he accuses some nameless "white writers" of harboring unconscious racism? Who is he talking about specifically? He should have the balls to name who he is accusing. I'm not a Levar fan or a Star Trek fan; I've never watched Reading Rainbow. He comes across as an old, bitter, racist black a-hole, blaming the white boogeyman because he is retrospectively dissatisfied with his career.
