This is one of my favorite dark comedies of all time. It's not at the level of Dr. Strangelove, by I get a great laugh out of it all of the time.
I loved the solution to the Alien Threat of playing Slim Whitman music to make the Martians head exploded is hysterical.
This film had a huge cast of A-listers.
Thoughts?

It took me a while to appreciate the movie because I liked the books so much. I was really excited when they announced the movie because I liked the books but was initially a letdown with the movie.

I was watching LPB the other day and the Louisiana Hayride had Slim Whitman there playing that song. Had no idea who or where that song came from, so that was a good laugh.
Mars Attacks was pretty funny. Jim Brown beating the shite out of the aliens was a highlight

Stupid movie on the whole. But Steiger flipping the bird while yelling "DEMOCRACY WILL SURVIVE!" before getting stomped makes me laugh my arse off every time I see it.

I had the same feeling with the Harry Potter movies. After reading the books I had to divorce myself from them so I could appreciate the movies a little better

I saw a sneak preview of this movie a few weeks before it was released. The theater was packed and it was a really great crowd, lot's of laughter. I was really surprised when the movie wasn't commercially successful. I thought based on that screening it was going to be a massive hit. I liked it a lot and thought it was really funny.

Slim Whitman was a fixture of late night TV in the at the end of the 70's and into the 80's. The commercials for his albums were relentless.
Commercial on YouTube (Zip past the commercial to see him perform on Carson, followed by his interview.)

Wasn't this his sons, in the movie, trying to save the POTUS at the White House?
Scene on Youtube.
This is the biggest gif I've ever seen

One of my favorites. It took me multiple watches to figure out Jack Nicholson also played Art Land. Great character
"Why can't we all just get along" speech scene is an all timer

It's amazing how many of them wanted to do it.

Saw it and Space Jam double feature at a drive in near Lake Guntersville in ‘96. Good times.

Hated this movie.
I was in line to see it and the showing before just ended. A guy walked past and said, “don’t waste your money. It’s terrible.”
I told my wife (no pics), “He probably just doesn’t get Tim Burton.” And we went in.
Dude was right. That movie sucked. I can’t believe so many of you actually liked it.

My favorite part was Tom Jones singing It's Not Unusual .... oh, and Martin Short picking up Tim Burton's wife and taking her into the White House.
I was a big Slim Whitman fan back in the day. He was an original, classic, voice.
Also loved it when the Martian went before Congress and fried them all. People cheered in the theater at that part.

Whenever I hear that song I sing the Martian version.

They filmed some of this about 20 or 25 miles away from my parent's house. Uneven movie, parts of it definitely could have used some work(though people have probably forgotten that it was kind of intentionally supposed to feel low budgety as part of the whole schick of the movie Burton intended it to be a tribute to the low budget sci-fi movies of the 50s) and parts absolutely LOL.

There would be robust cheering for this scene in theaters today.
