Let's discuss the knot (The Prestige) *spoilers*

Angier is obsessed with the knot that Borden tied on his wife, which led to her death.
Would they not have been able to identify the knot after the fact? Or did they identify it and Angier just wants to hear Borden confess that he didn't tie a slip knot?
Also, when asked about the knot during the catch the bullet trick and at his wife's funeral, Borden says he doesn't know which he tied. I believe he is telling the truth. I think Fallon was on stage that particular night, and Fallon tied the knot his way because Borden was the one that got scolded the previous night.
Weigh in, you magnificent bastards.

I always thought this, and never even thought about it another way. There was also that exchange where his wife was insinting she could get out of a slip knot and Algier insisted it was too dangerous. Maybe it was an unspoken, "let's give it a shot" when Borden tied the knot.

The Langford double will hold!

This is on memory, so I may be wrong.

Yeah I would think most agree that he honestly didn't remember. Saying he didn't remember didn't benefit him any. Algier basically felt the same hatred towards him with the "I don't remember" line as much as he would with a "I tied the different knot answer." The only way to make Algier happy is to tell him he didn't mix it up. He knew that and could have said he didn't change it to benefit himself but he didn't because he honestly didn't remember.
I also agree that it was a mutual agreement between the two to tie the other knot. She was confident that it would work and the look they gave each other while on stage kind of told you they were going the other route.

Nope. I was right. Watch at :14 seconds. This is after they've discussed her escaping the other knot.

But to answer the original question
I really think Borden didn't remember too. The thought of him being responsible for her death could've been subconsciously blocked from his mind.

Right...here we go.
He's a magician not some audience rube...
Damn well straight he knows what not he tied!!!!!!
...well, his brother knows...the one who tied the knot...and he never told his twin.

You know like in Fight Club they give you those early clues about who Tyler Durden is...even those little spliced frames...that splash across...
The knot affair was the first little clue that they were two different people that only really makes sense until after the fact.

That's the way I always took it. The twin that tied the knot was not the one at the funeral, and he truly didn't know when Angier asked him.

God damn, I've watched this movie about 5 times and it never occurred to me which of the two tied the knot (or that it even mattered). That's a pretty significant aspect of the film, and I never even thought about it. Seriously, one of my top 10 of all time, ahead of Inception and Memento.

Nolan does make movies with incredible replay value.
I've watched Memento and The Prestige at least 5-7 times each, maybe more.

I'm right there with you. I always thought he truly didn't know which knot was tied, but I never considered that he didn't know because he wasn't the one who tied it...and I've seen The Prestige AT LEAST 12 times.
