So Luke faking a fight was the badass Luke you wanted to see?

Uh yeah. Luke projecting himself across the galaxy is pretty badass.

You see, this is what's wrong with these stupid arse movies.
You set up this map to find Luke, and you're saying we have to assume Luke wants to be found. You are trying to tell me Luke doesn't want to be found and it's luck he was found.

Good storytelling would be that Luke does want to be found, but only someone worthy of finding him could do so, and that person is Rey. It was her destiny.

That would be rote archetypal fantasy storytelling, i don't know about "good".

Luke may have changed how he felt about being found as well as how he felt about the jedi order during the however many years of solitude he has been in thinking about his and the jedi order's past.

Maybe I am misremembering but there is a cutscene in the context of finding Luke using the map. You see destruction and fire in the backdrop and Luke is kneeling down and reaching with his hand to R2. The scene is obviously meant to provide context and it mirrors Leia providing the droid with the death star plans and her message to Ben. Reoccurings themes have been a hallmark of SW and they continue throughout the new movies.

One can deduce that the map was split into two for obvious reasons

That was rey's force back vision.

That wasn't meant to be indication he put the map in r2. That was right after kylo destroyed the new training temple. We see the scene in more detail in then last jedi.

Luke didn't want to be found.

That gif makes it clear Rey died and the rest of the movie was all a hallucination she had while in her death throws. The next film will most most likely pick up at that point and show us what really happened. Looking forward to Luke facing off with Snoke.

From Wookiepedia...
quote:

During their conflict with the Resistance, the First Order recovered part of the map from the Archives of the Empire,[1] while Lor San Tekka was given a portion of the map by Skywalker. Skywalker's droid, R2-D2, also received a portion of the map from his master, then went into low-power mode to protect the data. It was impossible to distinguish where the map led without both portions. [2]
The First Order only needed Tekka's portion to find Skywalker and complete the map. Kylo Ren, Gideon Hask, and a detachment of stormtroopers went to the aquatic planet Pillio on a report that Jinata Security (J-Sec) had found a mysterious man they had found in the Emperor's Observatory. It turned out to be Del Meeko, Hask's former squadmate from Inferno Squad. After forcing Del to tell him where Tekka was, Ren let Hask confront and kill Meeko. They eventually found Tekka on Jakku, although they didn't find the map.

They included all their sources in the link. Wookiepedia - Luke's Map

Its better if you see this movie as a deliberate car wreck to collect an insurance check. RJ hated Star Wars and wanted to destroy it.

I guess we are back to the original question....

Why would Luke leave a map if he didn't want to be found?

It's almost like Rian Johnson's quest to subvert expectations included movie continuity. What a shitshow
