it would be fantasy. Scorsese hasn't shown much interest in that genre.

I see you didn't watch the Irishman. Pure bullshite. Joe Pesci killed it though.

I love that Jesse Plemons is playing White. That’s going to be a great fit I think.

I listened to the author of the book on Ryen Russilo podcast. Very great listen. He mentioned that Leo was supposed to play White but Scorsese re-wrote the movie. Re-casting Leo.

I just read the recent articles and it does look like Scorsese did do the rewrites.

Whomever mentioned it was mistaken or though maybe some others had more input . Either way - it looks amazing

There seems to be a whole lot of people in this thread who think every Indian tribe was the same.
Just look at what they did with Pakistan.

In the 1959 film The F.B.I. Story, the Tom White character was absorbed into a "John Hardesty" catch-all persona played by Jimmy Stewart. The Osage were shown as comical "Millionaire Indians".

Yep, it sounds like it was a very good decision to do some re-writes. The original script was probably going to just be fine but this will be more from the point of view of evil instead of just a crime being solved. Refreshing.

I highly recommend the book ($11-12 on Amazon). If you don't have time then I recommend that interview on that podcast. This is just straight up evil coordinated by multiple people. Disgusting.

Probably better than what they will be portrayed in this movie as: brooding, whoa is me type people.

It’s tough to say what the natives could have accomplished considering our horses and cattle killed 95% of them. Which also led directly to importing new slave labor from Africa, as the native population had been decimated. No so fun fact

In terms of civilization, Europe had a pretty big head start on America. So the reason for the lack of technological advancement is probably due to time more than great European virtue. The Maya didn’t show up until roughly 1000BC; meanwhile by 2300BC Sargon had amassed an empire roughly the size of early Persia, uniting millions of people to trade, interact, and exchange ideas.

It also makes sense if you consider how we think America was populated. If we can all agree that humanity came from the greater African/European/Asian continent, then America would have been the last part of the world settled by man

It’s worth noting this is what the woman she is playing looked like IRL.

Also, I think it would be bordering on impossible to find much positive info about the natives in our history books, our ancestors did write them after all. I think it’s just human nature, even for the best historian, to allow some bias to get into your work. I don’t blame any of them for it, but I think it probably does play a part in how we view that whole situation

ETA: I think anyone raised in the south can understand the thought process behind “history is written by the victors.”

Well, the Comanche committed literal genocide against the Apache. The Sioux's aboriginal home was Minnesota and Wisconsin until the Chippewa pushed them out on to the Plains. Custer's last ill fated expedition was due to a request by the Crow, whose lands the Sioux were infringing on. That said, it doesn't excuse the depredations of the European settlers either. When you get right down to it they were no more "civilized" than the Plains indians, they just had better technology.

Speaking of which, the relative level of civilization wasn't all one sided. At the time of the Spanish conquest, the Aztecs and Incas lived in stone houses and were arguably healthier, wealthier and better fed than the average European peasant.
